Kane 5.0 out of 5 stars One day I was at my best friends house in Tacoma, WA, and her daughter stopped by.https://jdleducation.com/images/canon-powershot-sd1200-is-digital-elph-user-manual.pdf She wanted everyone to see her digital camera pictures she had taken while fighting fires in Idaho. It just so happened that she had a Canon Powershot SD200 Elph. She seemed to know her way around the camera quite well and she began to show us all the pictures and video clips that she was so proud of. I have to say that I was absolutly amazed with the steller quality of the pictures and videos taken with the Canon Powershot SD200 Elph. The colors were perfect as well as the overall picture quality. She plugged the camera into a 27 inch television and the quality was close to that of a DVD. Heck, I was sold already. Coupled with the excellent sound quality I said to myself that I was going to get that exact camera some day. Well, I just purchased the camera and it is everything I expected and more. I am having a blast taking pictures for once in my life. I am absolutely certain that the Canon Elph Powershot Digital Camera is the finest on the market today. I say this because I have seen many other digital cameras perform, and none that I have seen come close to the performance, qaulity, workmanship, and dependability of the Canon SD Elph series. One other remark if you don't mind. I have an older Canon AE1 35mm camera. I thought that it provided me with extreamly good pictures and dependability over the years always using the automatic setting, but the Canon Elph SD200 actually takes better quality pictures than the Canon AE1. Now that is saying something. If I was you, I would not hesitate to purchase a digital camera because they are so easy to use in our computer driven society. Get a Canon Powershot SD Elph and you won't be sorry in any way, shape, or form. I can say with 99 certainty that the purchase will be one of the best investments you will ever make. Hey, it's a very cool camera! -M.KaneThe Elph is small enough to fit in my jeans pocket. The small size also keeps them lightweight, so when I'm taking a lot of pictures I just leave the camera out on my wrist rest. The metal body is very sturdy and protects the camera. The battery life is very good. There's been several times that I've taken hundreds of pictures in one day without the battery running out. Canon provides free software to transfer pictures from your camera and to edit them. However, lately I just use the software built into Windows to import my pictures. These also work great with gorillapod tripods. With a 1GB memory card, the camera will hold over 600 shots taken in the highest resolution. Images are generally good to outstanding. And the movie mode is a great feature.I read lots of reports here on Amazon about cracked LCD screens. I'm not sure what's up with that, but my camera has gone from a cold (airconditioned) house to a hot beach many times, has been in my wife's purse (in the optional leather carrying case), and in my pocket many times. And, I highly recommend the optional leather carrying case with magnetic clasp available from Canon. It is great value for money. It has all the features I wanted - small size, cheap, low pixelage (yes low pixelage!). The camera is very sleek and fits into any pocket (even a tight jeans pocket). That's a major plus point about it. It is 3.2 MP which is all I needed as I never take prints larger than postcard size. It's photo quality is excellent for its price. Soon I am going to buy a digital SLR but that's not because I am not happy with this one. I am 100 satisfied with this camera. Small point and shoot cameras and bulky DSLRs have their own utilities and one can't be subsituted for the other. One thing I like is that I can switch of the LCD screen and take photos using viewfinder, that saves a lot of battery. You can take a lot more photos with LCD switched off. Don't go for a camera that doesn't have a viewfinder or doesn't allow you to switch off LCD. Battery life is average, but when on trips I generally switch off LCD while taking dayshots. Pros - -Very sleek -Excellent picture quality for it's price -Very low flash charging time -Unlimited video shooting at decent resolution -Cheap Cons- -Does not have bulb setting so you can't keep the shutter open for unlimited time for night shots. -Doesn't use AA or AAA batteries (but that's not a biggie as long as you remember to charge it before heading on to your trip and take the charger with you). You might not need every tool for every procedure. Although it is small, the Canon PowerShot SD200 has many of the same features as its larger counterparts. This particular model was first released in September 2004. This model is a 3.2 MegaPixel, 3x zoom camera with both camera and video modes. It has different scene settings for automatic white balance and aperture settings. The PowerShot SD200 saves images and videos onto an SD card that can be instantly uploaded to your computer. One is included with the camera, but more pictures can be saved with the purchase of a larger memory card. The IXY DIGITAL 40, following the IXY DIGITAL 30a released in March 2004, are the first of Canon’s compact digital cameras to incorporate the proprietary DIGIC II image engine used in the Canon’s top-of-the line EOS-1D Mark II professional digital SLR model. Realizing drastically improved performance compared with the highly appraised DIGIC architecture, Canon’s new DIGIC II image engine performs detailed processing of large-volume data at extremely high speeds. As a result, the technology enables ultra-fine detail and gradation, natural color reproduction and precise white balance control. DIGIC II also enables outstanding responsiveness and shooting performance, making possible fast startup times, 30 faster AF performance than the IXY DIGITAL 30a, and high-speed writing of image files for consistent continuous-shooting performance. The cameras also employ advanced System in Package (SiP) high-density mounting and an ultra-thin battery for further size reductions. The models also boast a full range of video features, allowing users to record and replay video clips with sound at resolutions up to VGA (640 x 480 pixels) with a 30 frames-per-second (fps) frame rate. Also, marking a world’s first for a digital still camera, the duo can record one-minute clips (QVGA: 320 x 240 pixels) at a fast 60 fps frame rate, making possible the smooth capture of moving subjects.Exif Print is a standard for enhancing the communication between digital cameras and printers. By connecting to an Exif Print-compliant printer, the camera’s image data at the time of shooting is used and optimized, yielding extremely high quality prints. I am old fashioned and not until a couple of years ago, I still had a 35mm camera. The transition to digital was necessary, but after being disappointed with 10MP cameras, I went back to my second digital camera I ever owned. The Canon SD200 is easy to work and takes excellent stills. Has Macro function for closeups and many different modes to suit the average amateur photographer. I cannot tell the difference between 35mm and this 3.2MP camera. The resolution is impressive (for only 3.2MP). I actually bought another just like it, but used, because I dropped the old one and broke it. No frills, just a great camera all around, plus easy to shoot, and always a great shot in automatic mode. I didn't pay for the newest thing out, either. This camera has lots of features if I want to learn how to use them, but in automatic mode, I can pick it up and take a photo without messing with settings. The macro setting is one I have used for close-up shots. The NB-4L battery is rechargeable -- no more AA batteries. If I want a spare or end up buying a new battery few years, generics can be found on eBay for under five dollars, making this camera economical to use. With a 2 GB memory card, I don't have to worry about how many pictures I have left. I haven't used the movie mode, but it has one. In addition to the hardcopy manual, the digital version is available online, so I can search for specific fea tures. I haven't installed the software that came with the camera, but I can take the memory card out of the camera, put it in a card reader, and download the pictures using Windows Explorer. I'm not saying it's idiot-proof. You do have to make sure that that the mode indicator is all the way over to photos so you don't take a movie by mistake, but this camera is very easy to use. One accessory I haven't used yet is the optional waterproof case made for this camera. That could be interesting. I really don't have any complaints.I may even get another one. Maybe a bit low on MP, but it's really all I need and I think it's good enough to do an 8x10 print. It's small and easily fits in your pocket. It has lots of settings, but it's easy to use. It does nice quality video. Perfect for YouTube. The best thing is that it focuses and shoots fast. Good little camera. Easy to use and compact. It takes excellent pictures and video. I have another Canon Powershot, but it is a bigger size. Happy with BOTH of them. Verisign. These achieve high-resolution and good contrast characteristics for the 3x optical zoom, which has a focal length of 35-105mm (35mm film equivalent). The cameras also incorporate 9-point Artificial Intelligence Auto Focus (AiAF) for fast, sharp and accurate focus, even with off-centre subjects. DIGIC II is the same technology driving Canon’s EOS-1D Mark II pro-series SLR 69 Megapixel per sec.DIGIC II handles all the complex algorithms required for accurate colour rendering and enhanced image quality, precision white balance and metering. In addition it ensures quick camera control, fast auto-focus, extended high quality movies, rapid start-up times and approx. 2.4 fps continuous, uninterrupted shooting. Playback is as fast as flipping through an album; users will never again experience the frustration of staring at the camera LCD screen waiting for images to appear. In addition to the Auto, Manual, Stitch Assist and Movie modes, 6 scene modes are provided to assist with selecting the best focus, exposure, ISO, white balance, shutter speed and photo effect settings to match the shooting environment. An Underwater scene mode is included for use with the optional 3m depth All Weather Case AW-DC30. The diminutive sizes are made possible by a string of technology advances, including the new UA lens, slimmer LCD, improved circuit assembly techniques and a smaller, more efficient battery. They are the first digital still cameras in the world to feature up to one minute of 60 fps QVGA quality, which allows for in-camera slow motion replay at various user-selectable speeds. Different frame rates and resolutions can be selected to best suit end applications such as TV playback or email attachment. The cameras are perfectly matched to Canon’s new SELPHY range of personal photo printers, for instant, durable lab-quality photos. As well as a postcard date imprint mode, the cameras feature ID photo mode to create photo-booth style ID prints for passport and other ID purposes, and Movie print mode, which prints an entire action sequence of up to 63 evenly spaced frames from any chosen movie clip.An Intelligent Orientation Sensor takes into account the likely position of the sky and foreground before setting focus, exposure and white balance settings. It then rotates images to the correct orientation for easy, enjoyable playback.A movie upload facility is also available via a special download from the CiG site.
