boss od 3 manualBefore using this unit, carefully read the sections entitled: “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and “IMPORTANT NOTES” (page 16; page 4). These sections provide important informa- tion concerning the proper operation of the unit. Additionally, in order to feel assured that you have gained a good grasp of every feature provided by your new unit, this manual should be read in its entirety. A longer sustain, a signal with a powerful and compact compression, and more dynamics. We will see, during the review, if the final result corresponds to the intentions. Like all the Overdrives, it is very simple. Now we will analyze the main characteristics of this device.http://afzaliqbal.org/userfiles/boss-smart-vac-manual.xml

At the maximum position the Overdrive will turn out more sweet, since it adds more middle, while at the minimum it will be more dry and sharp. When it is in a position just before the half, hours 11, if we want, and the same thing for the Tone, it produces a sound rather similar to the solo of Another brick in the wall. Perhaps more modern, but much similar. It is defined and with a very pleasant compression. On the contrary, with a low value of the Drive, the tone is perfect for the rhythmics, above all for the Rock of the '80s. But it can be also a good solution for the Blues. Anyhow, by and large, the character is rather classic. We can say British. They can be a good starting point, or just a way to understand how work the controls. Naturally, the final result depends on a large number of factors. They are only examples. The character, as we have said, is classic, much typical of the '80s, but, with a good use of the controls, this pedal can be used also in a modern context. The price of the OD-3, about 120 euros, is really honest. My personal opinion is that it is worth more than how much it costs. Substantially, it is surprising and turns out suitable to clean sounds, above all, but not only. Please do not offer the downloaded file for sell only use it for personal usage. The tone is very warm and fat, much smoother than for example the Boss BluesDriver. The drive range starts with a nearly clean, slightly fattened tone and ends with a solid rock sound. It's a good way to control the basic sound of the drive, the overall control still can be done with the amp. The OD-3 fits perfectly in any amp character: It supports its tone and doesn't change it too much. It always adds smoothness and bass to it, but if you have a Marshall, it will still sound like Marshall. The best thing is the OD-3's dynamic: You can turn the drive poti completely up, but you'll still be able to control the drive from clean to completely overdriven just by using your guitar's volume poti. By turning down the drive knob and cranking up the volume you can use the OD-3 as booster and sustainer too add a creamy component to your amps overdrive. I use it with volume at 10, drive at 2.https://www.becompta.be/emploi/bosch-shu3036uc-service-manual5 and tone at 4: With a clean amp sound I get a nice blues tone, with my amp distorted the Boss is a booster for my solo sound. Quality and handling is classic Boss-like. Send report Total features sound quality handling Boss OD-3 Rory B. 463, 30.07.2013 Every guitar player who gets the pedal bug will go through the purchase and upgrade of their gear as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow. At some point in that process you will probably use Boss effects and you could do a lot, lot worse than try this drive pedal. The key to this pedal is the level knob, the tone knob will brighten or darken your sound, the drive knob goes from hint to soaked and the level knob either reigns the volume in or puts you totally over the top. It's robust, easy to use and gives you a good driven tone which is just what you want. Send report Total features sound quality handling Bruhyanek, 01.06.2020 Compared to Boss SD-1 the sound is thicker and bigger. The other guitarist from my band loved the sound but I was looking for something more similiar to a tubescreamer to boost distortion of my amplifier. Send report Total features sound quality handling Excellent non-middy overdrive 08.04.2015 It's an overdrive so the sound is pretty gentle. It's not as abrasive as a distortion or fuzz. I find with my Les Paul I can't use a real fuzz like Big Muff because the high gain guitar mics and the over-the-top fuzz just makes everything sound like porridge. The Boss OD works much better in this regards. You can get a lot of drive from this pedal, it's not that, it's just smoother and less intensive as it doesn't clip as hard. Most overdrives are modelled after Tubescreamers and have a big spike in mid-range frequencies. Although it doesn't really cut through that well when playing with a band, which is too bad. Big and cumbersome, effects pedals were barely on the average guitar player’s radar throughout most of the 70s. This was due to the high cost, low production numbers and inconvenient nature of these boxes. Ever since then, the BOSS Compact Pedal design is considered the “gold standard” in compact effects pedal design. Today, it’s challenging to find an effects pedal that doesn’t owe something to BOSS’ unique design, introduced 40 years ago. The OD-1 OverDrive in particular holds a special significance, as it presented a new kind of distortion, previously unheard in a guitar effects pedal. In production from November 1977 to November 1981, it had a relatively short lifespan and low production numbers. Today, it fetches big prices on the used market (if you can find one). The SPECTRUM knob enables continuously variable setting of frequencies in the range of 500Hz to 5 kHz. The BALANCE knob sets the peak of the selected frequency. Why? Bass players found it useful for cleaning up “muddy” tone. Keyboard and electric piano players used it to augment their sound, for clarity and brightness. It was a new effect and the only effect of its kind. Although it wasn’t a knockout pedal on its release, it’s still capable of very usable results. In fact, it’s great for that snappy, almost phased kind of funky guitar sound! BOSS responded to the call with the PH-1 Phaser, a lush and smooth sounding phaser that’s gone on to augment the sound of many a spacious guitar, bass or synth! The PH-1 added a DEPTH control, which enabled the effect to be either super subtle, or lush and rich at the user’s discretion. Since the PH-1’s RATE control was freely adjustable from an ultra-low speed of 16 seconds to a high speed of 100 milliseconds, the PH-1 could handle a range of settings. The PH-1 later spawned the PH-1R (which added a Resonance knob), the PH-2 Super Phaser (which featured dual phase modes) and the legacy of the original still lives on today with the PH-3 Phase Shifter. Context is important here, so let’s take a trip further down memory lane! The further tuned up they were, the more they started to reach their limits and distort. This was what spawned the initial development of fuzz pedals. In this task, they weren’t quite up to the job. They did, of course, became revered for their own unique fuzzy tones. The OD-1 OverDrive was a fresh piece of engineering from the team at BOSS. It was a landmark of guitar technology. When played into a clean amp, the OD-1 astounded guitar players of the time with its “amp-like” feel. Finally, for the first time ever, guitarists had access to organic, amp-like overdriven sounds at reasonable volume levels! Jeff Beck was an early pioneer of this technique, using the BOSS OD-1 and before too long, it seemed that every guitar player on the planet was buying an OD-1 to use on their amp. Other pedal manufacturers took notice of the OD-1’s ability to make a tube amp scream and were soon releasing their own pedals with many striking circuit design similarities to the OD-1 (though just enough difference to avoid a lawsuit!). The OD-1 began a legend that has never really left us. Its many iterations, incarnations and spiritual successors are still in production to this day. They include the SD-1 Super OverDrive, the OD-3 OverDrive, the OD-1X pedal and the Waza Craft SD-1W. BOSS Compact Pedals spearheaded a movement towards design excellence. It’s an ethos to create products that focus as much on the user experience, as the sound of the pedal. BOSS is looking forward to the next 40 years of pedals and the results of what creative and brilliant musicians can achieve with these iconic stompboxes. However, there’s Get yourself tuned down and turn. The first BOSS Overdrive pedal was the OD-1, released in 1977 and discontinued in 1985. The OD-1 had just two controls, Level and Overdrive. In 1981 BOSS introduced the successor to the OD-1 called the SD-1, the Super OverDrive which added a tone control. In 1985 the OD-2 Turbo OverDrive pedal was released which had an additional Turbo switch which, as you can probably imagine, added more volume and gain when engaged. And fast forward to 1997 the OD-3 was released which looked very much like the SD-1 but utilises a dual stage overdrive circuit to create a fuller sound. Now Boss have released the OD-1X which has an extended EQ control with separate Bass and Treble controls and also uses their new Multi-Dimensional Processing technology or MDP. This new DSP analyses the audio signal in realtime, separates it into several different parts or “dimensions” and applies the optimal effect to each part independently, treating each dimension almost as a separate input. Pretty clever stuff which automatically ensures optimal tone for both the low-end chugging and widdly solos without changing the knob settings. Aesthetically the OD-1X has a cool metal flake finish and a mirrored control plate and chrome looking plastic control knobs and it comes in a pretty flash box which is a departure from the usual BOSS packaging. But none of that matters if it doesn’t sound any good right. Well in my opinion it certainly doesn’t disappoint. As you can hear from my demo in front of a totally clean amp (my Ceriatone Chupacabra 50) the pedal sounds fantastic, instant VH style tones without so much saturation that it makes the tone muddy and that was with the gain set to maximum. Very impressive pedal. The OD-1X creates Smooth singing lead tones and riffs and if you want a bit more bite just increase the treble control, it never reached the point where it became ice-picky or unpleasant. Also this pedal was great as a boost using the volume to drive the amp and slowly increasing the gain to reach the sweet spot. In front of an overdriven amp this is even more evident. If you are looking for a great overdrive tone from a clean amp or a great no-noise pedal to add gain and sustain to your overdriven tones definitely give this pedal a try. Jasper 5.0 out of 5 stars I always missed the OS-2 for its versatility. Its design and purpose are humble, but between the color and tone knob, you can dial in a wide range of tones that are truly usable across different rigs. It sounds just as great with a Strat and an AC30 as it would a Les Paul and Fender Deluxe, with the right tweaking. I would say there are too many different tonal possibilities in the color knob to be billed as simple a DS-1 and an SD-1 in the same box. There are more tones here than any other overdrive pedal I've owned. With the drive up high and the color knob fairly low, one can conjure up some near-Marshall or HiWatt sounds. With the color and drive extremely low, you can produce some Fender Tweed sounds without a harsh high end. I personally like to keep the color knob below 12 o'clock for a warm overdrive sound, but the charm in this pedal is that I've seen other guitarists say they prefer it in the opposite direction. Now for the negative. It's not a noiseless pedal. With the drive knob at 12 o'clock, it emits a pretty harsh buzzing sound compared to other drive pedals. I personally wish it had more output, as I find myself pushing the output past 12 o'clock more than I'd prefer. For this reason, I think it sounds best when pushed with another high-output boost pedal like the BOSS Blues Driver. So overall, I'd say it shouldn't be the ONLY overdrive pedal one should own, but I think everyone should own one at some point. I feel like any guitarist can find a way to use this pedal, which is the greatest compliment I can give to a guitar pedal. This thing rivals my Marshall-style pedals in terms of tone. It just needs more volume. The color knob is what sets it apart - can blend overdrive and distortion as you desire - set about 2 or 3 o'clock sounds really good. It is a little noisy compared to other newer pedals I have, but minor concern for my needs. It was just a little bit more difficult than I guessed it would be but not too hard for someone with some electronics kit building experience. I removed all the parts first and then installed the new ones, as I felt confident I would be able to do it correctly. I understand what the instructions say about checking the pedal with every component installed but I did not want to go through all that trouble. I would not reccomend this as a first project for someone with no soldering experience but if you can solder and desolder joints you should be ok. You will want to use a good iron with a small chisel tip as the solder pads are small. I expected the led to be a bit brighter based on the description but it works just fine, it came with a clear one that lights yellow but it is not much brighter than the stock red one. Surely looks better with the yellow to me. The pedal is a lot warmer sounding now and it has a LOT more clarity and sweetness. I notice the tone knob seems to affect the overall volume more than it did before but it seems to be a lot more useful in shaping the tone now, this is easily balanced out by the level knob.
