boss odb 3 manualBefore using this unit, carefully read the sections entitled: “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” and “IMPORTANT NOTES” (separate sheet). These sections provide important information concerning the proper operation of the unit. Additionally, in order to feel assured that you have gained a good grasp of every feature provided by your new unit, this manual should be read in its entirety. Using the BALANCE Knob, you can adjust the balance between the Dry and Overdrive sounds. This capability gives you complete control of your sound, from soft and warm to hard and bright. The indicator lights when an effect is ON. If this indicator goes dim or no longer lights while an effect is ON, the battery is near exhaustion and should be replaced imme- diately. Set the knob so there is no volume difference between the effect and straight guitar sounds. HIGH EQ Knob Use this knob to boost or cut higher frequencies;. Depress the pedal switch to turn the effect on. (Make sure that the CHECK Indicator lights.) Adjust the output balance between the Dry and Overdrive sounds using the BALANCE Knob. To my ear it sounds like he's got the gain cranked, the treble a fair way up and then most of the bottom is coming from the dry signal (so make sure the balance is far enough that way). I like the ugliness of his sound on Californication, I think the Flea Bass sounds much more Flea than those Stingrays, Wals and Spectors ever did. Kind of like Mike Watt's clanky P-bass tone on Double Nickels On The Dime but with an end of the century sheen. Alex Not much of a RHCP fan, but if I try and run with the gain and the distortion all the way up, it is waaaaaaay too fuzzy and ringing, and the sustain is a bit much. But it may be my rig, too. I think that there is more to Flea's sound than a distortion pedal. And lows still need some help from the EQ on the pedal. Seriously though, I had a P-bass with an ampeg 115 combo and a odb-3 as my only pedal for a while (probly less highs than you get with the BA115) and I think that some of the best settings I ever found with it were in the instruction manual.Lots of clean signal on the blend and a lower gain then EQ to taste (cut lows and highs if you need more mids) might get you in sort of the right ballpark for that video, but probably still not going to be great. The big problem I found was that the blend seemed to make the pedal sound like there was a second layer of not very good fuzz over your clean tone.The low-fi thing, crank the blend, mid to high gain and eq to taste again. Still not amazing quality but does what I want and is relatively inexpensive. It's got a neat 'morph' feature that goes from overdrive, through distortion and into fuzz. Yeah - it sounds pretty terrible by it self. The minimum is at least a compressor or an Aphex Bass Xciter BEFORE it (at its INPUT). I have several distortions, have borrowed several more, and have played with dozens and dozens at stores; the ODB-3 at the end is just what I want for my high-gain sound. Higher gain, I moved more toward the overdriven signal. Usually kept the Lows under 2:00 and the highs between 10:00 and 2:00. Kept things from being too muffled or muddy. I should've tried more settings with the lows and highs dropped to get more mids, but never did.The Ibanez OD pedal is terrific. Not so much on bass I use to use it with my big muff but couldnt find a setting now i use it with a Boss eq. Its just a little bit of overdrive, I have a big muff for big distortion.
