Artist of the 70’s was mostly using a fuzz distortion sound and the overdrive produced by the OD-1 was not typical. It was however soon accepted as the new standard of guitar sound. The OD-1 features an asymmetric circuit where the positive and negative halves of the waveform isn’t distorted equally. The sound is therefore still close to the original even though distortion have been added. The different versions have been named OD-1A, OD-1B and so on. The version letter is printed on the PCB in the form of the number 052-281A to 052-281E. There are at least 4 different versions available. Each with minor differences like opamps from different manufacturers. The 4 digit serial number is ink stamped inside the battery compartment. These numbers are not real serial numbers but instead batch numbers. It is so far unknown how many pedals there were in a batch. The section below lists the major differences between different versions of the OD-1. It works exceptionally well with darker guitars such as Les Pauls because it removes a lot of the low end before you hit the amp by setting the output gain to maximum.http://favour-europe.com/attachment/boss-se-70-manual.xml When this low en is removed it gives you a much clear and punchy drive signal. Lots of boutique takes of this pedal do not cut the low end as much, and they have a much higher output level. But the amount of output gain and low end cut I find that just correct. This is a classic and it does not need to get fixed. So if you?re in doubt I highly recommend this overdrive. Send report Total features sound quality handling Boosting my amp very well.I saw it in many pedalboards, so I wanted to have one as well. It works well with my amp DSL1 Head Marshall. And there was battery inside as well when I received it. So good quality, it feels durable. It is not very gainy pedal its OD pedal, if you are looking for very gainy tones, I dont think you can get from this pedal. It is great with the tube amplifier. Send report Total features sound quality handling Cheap but effective distortion nurk, 04.03.2020 This pedal is quite cheap. That being considered, the construction quality seems to be quite high, with most of the components made out of metal and not plastic. It provides a pretty decent bang for the buck and I would reccomend it to anyone looking for a decent Overdrive without going broke. This would be one of the pedals that set the stage t what would become some of the most legendary Boss pedal of all time and for that much some of the best overdrives pedals of all time. This pedal is more of an overdrive pedal than it is a distortion pedal. It does distort but give the necessary drive that breaks up the front of an amp to get a good low gain distortion tone.http://schlammatlas.de/en/node/18203 There isn't loads of distortion in this pedal but what many would consider a boost pedal compared to today's standard in high gain and distortion. It only has two control knobs and there really isn't much to dial in to get a very usable tone from this thing. You have level for your overall volumes and level and then there is overdrive which is your gain and distortion. There is no tone control knob as you would see in later pedals. This pedal sound best in front of an already overdriven amp. It is great for getting that extra sizzle and sustain. The pedal also works well if you need a light drive for some bluesy tones with the neck pickup of a Fender Strat. OVERALL OPINION These pedals would be manufactured all the way up until 1985. They are obviously discontinued and the use market it the only way to go at this point. They have more revisions on this pedal and four of them are floating out there. They all sound pretty much the same and all were made in Japan. It's an extremely sturdy and reliable pedal that'll withstand decades of abuse without a problem. It uses a FET boost which kinda sucks some tone and leaks a bit when it's off, but given its age, it's somewhat forgivable. Just keep that in mind if you're using this in your chain. You might want to get a true bypass looper or get in there and start soldering. I haven't read the manual on this particular item, but there really is no need for one. I mean, there are only two knobs. SOUND QUALITY This pedal is a great overdrive that works awesome with Marshalls. With the gain off and the level cranked, you get this wonderful overdriven sound on amps such as the JCM800. It gives it this really angry character but still sounds fairly natural. The same can't be said for the DS-1. When you start cranking the gain, you can really get into some pretty high gain territory, but you want to be careful as there's no tone knob. You'll want to watch the brightness as it might get too harsh for some people.http://americanpatriotbeer.com/images/boss-od-1-manual.pdf OVERALL OPINION Since the SD-1 is around, this pedal is losing its relevance fast. It's also not as easy to find on the used market as the SD-1 is, and there's actually a good reason for that.USE There's no simpler. solid. SOUND QUALITY Overdrive enough really rock dominated by medium frequencies.I prefer him OD2 bosses. 2d sound a bit DePass but which may have its interest. NOTICE GLOBAL Better plug into an amp already very well or well rod rod or hook on the sleeves or central microphones I think. But also the Valvestate is not the same. Today, the made-in-Japan specimens are sought after for collections and battle-ready pedalboards. The OD-1 was already legendary so following up to it was an impossible task. The design goal was to create a pedal with two modes. In mode one its sound should be similar to the OD-1, but in the turbo mode it should have more distortion and more gain. A tone control is included to give the user better control over the sound. The OD-2 is built using only discrete components (no integrated circuits). After the production was discontinued, 1994, the pedal continued its life as the slightly modified OD-2R for another 4 years. The first BOSS Overdrive pedal was the OD-1, released in 1977 and discontinued in 1985. The OD-1 had just two controls, Level and Overdrive. In 1981 BOSS introduced the successor to the OD-1 called the SD-1, the Super OverDrive which added a tone control. In 1985 the OD-2 Turbo OverDrive pedal was released which had an additional Turbo switch which, as you can probably imagine, added more volume and gain when engaged. And fast forward to 1997 the OD-3 was released which looked very much like the SD-1 but utilises a dual stage overdrive circuit to create a fuller sound.https://buddingheights.org/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626f5632487f8---bosch-wfk2801-washing-machine-manual.pdf Now Boss have released the OD-1X which has an extended EQ control with separate Bass and Treble controls and also uses their new Multi-Dimensional Processing technology or MDP. This new DSP analyses the audio signal in realtime, separates it into several different parts or “dimensions” and applies the optimal effect to each part independently, treating each dimension almost as a separate input. Pretty clever stuff which automatically ensures optimal tone for both the low-end chugging and widdly solos without changing the knob settings. Aesthetically the OD-1X has a cool metal flake finish and a mirrored control plate and chrome looking plastic control knobs and it comes in a pretty flash box which is a departure from the usual BOSS packaging. But none of that matters if it doesn’t sound any good right. Well in my opinion it certainly doesn’t disappoint. As you can hear from my demo in front of a totally clean amp (my Ceriatone Chupacabra 50) the pedal sounds fantastic, instant VH style tones without so much saturation that it makes the tone muddy and that was with the gain set to maximum. Very impressive pedal. The OD-1X creates Smooth singing lead tones and riffs and if you want a bit more bite just increase the treble control, it never reached the point where it became ice-picky or unpleasant. Also this pedal was great as a boost using the volume to drive the amp and slowly increasing the gain to reach the sweet spot. In front of an overdriven amp this is even more evident. If you are looking for a great overdrive tone from a clean amp or a great no-noise pedal to add gain and sustain to your overdriven tones definitely give this pedal a try. Prices for the original OD-1 with the Raytheon RC3403AD chip have gone through the roof.da-kong.com/userfiles/canon-hd-vixia-manual.pdf The BYOC Yellow Overdrive is an exact clone of the very first version BOSS OD-1. It has the quad op amp circuit, not the dual op amp circuit with transistor buffers that the later versions have. The kit comes with the incredibly rare Ratheon RC3403AD chip that was used in the very first production run of the OD-1. We have a very limited amount of these chips. Once they're gone, we probably won't be able to get any more. Here's some mods you might want to try: 1. Replace C3 and R5 with a.33uF film capacitor and 3.3k resistor. This will give it more available gain, restore low end, and a flat EQ response. 2. Replace the clipping diodes with two red LED's. This will give the overdrive a slightly crunchier texture and reduce compression. It will also add a little extra volume. A longer sustain, a signal with a powerful and compact compression, and more dynamics. We will see, during the review, if the final result corresponds to the intentions. Like all the Overdrives, it is very simple. Now we will analyze the main characteristics of this device. At the maximum position the Overdrive will turn out more sweet, since it adds more middle, while at the minimum it will be more dry and sharp. When it is in a position just before the half, hours 11, if we want, and the same thing for the Tone, it produces a sound rather similar to the solo of Another brick in the wall. Perhaps more modern, but much similar. It is defined and with a very pleasant compression. On the contrary, with a low value of the Drive, the tone is perfect for the rhythmics, above all for the Rock of the '80s. But it can be also a good solution for the Blues. Anyhow, by and large, the character is rather classic. We can say British. They can be a good starting point, or just a way to understand how work the controls. Naturally, the final result depends on a large number of factors. They are only examples. The character, as we have said, is classic, much typical of the '80s, but, with a good use of the controls, this pedal can be used also in a modern context. The price of the OD-3, about 120 euros, is really honest. My personal opinion is that it is worth more than how much it costs. The metal-shaft potentiometers are really a pleasure. It slightly compress the signal and is rather transparent. The price of this pedal is valid. Many emulated amplifiers and also some synthetizers. Much classic.https://southportrubbish.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626f56558b056---bosch-wfl-1650-manual.pdf This may happen as a result of the following: Javascript is disabled or blocked by an extension (ad blockers for example) Your browser does not support cookies Please make sure that Javascript and cookies are enabled on your browser and that you are not blocking them from loading.
