I keep the Boss and the Wah in a Boss effects case and both fit nicely. I use the Boss when I want some nice chorus and delays when recording - very clean sounding. Sometimes I'll use some of the distortions. I do like the octave range option on the Boss pedal - comes in handy for guitar solos. I know Boss has a newer model out which is the same design with more improvements. I'll stick with my ME-50. Works for me and has lasted a long time. Wont get me again!!!Please try again later. Please try again later. SuperLead 5.0 out of 5 stars Update! Make that ten years! No, it's not perfect, but for the money and for what it can do.it's the bomb! I've been playing guitar everyday for 40 years. I'm in a working top 40 classic rock and country band. On stage I use a 2001 Strat, Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue and my ME-50. That's it. I never use the preset side of the board. I don't write patches. I used to, and I used to try to make patches for different songs and go to those patches, but a patch that sounds great one night will almost always sound like trash the next night.http://www.1000ena.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626f39676f6aa---bosch-ventilation-hood-manual.pdf It's not the ME's fault. Weather, amp placement, amp settings, quantity of people in the room, how much my ears are ringing, etc.So I just use it manually. What I love is the portability, reliability, ease of use, consistency, small size, simplicity, versatility, and of course, the sounds it helps me make. I am a tone hound. I have a bedroom full of vintage guitars, amps and effects units, but I would be insane to lug any of that around to clubs and bars. I use cheap, reliable and rugged gear. Tone? All the tone I want. I run the amp at clean and at low volume, and push the amp with the output signal of the ME. This means the amp is quiet when I'm quiet, and it also does something magical to the Blues Deluxe. I always run the compressor and noise gate, and I usually just use the Tube Screamer distortion setting. I use just a touch of spring reverb instead of the amp's. I use the wah and have a real love for the vibrato pedal. For Mississippi Queen I use the Fuzzface. In the end, we are talking about a super easy, reliable, versatile, small, simple, easy to use, inexpensive and all in one effects unit that mimics a multitude of vintage gear very well (more often better). Why would I want to drag around an unreliable, gigantic and expensive pedal board around. The tone of the ME-50 can be magical once you spend enough time with it. There were times I hated this thing, but it was only because I was still unfamiliar with it. If you have the distortion past 12 o'clock, even on the Tube Screamer, you aren't using it right. Instead of going past 12 o'clock, crank up the compressor. The noise gate doesn't need to go beyond 10 o'clock ever. Mine sits at 9 o'clock. Do you know what it would cost to buy each effect separately. And then fit them all onto a pedal board. Yes, the Boss ME-50 is very awesome. People laugh at my stuff until they hear it. Even the tubes are 5 years old and original. Run your amp clean and low, then push it using the ME-50's volume knobs.da-kong.com/userfiles/commercial-drivers-license-manual-pa.pdf It has three! The master's, distortion's and the compressor's! That's where the magic is. It's like using a powerful clean booster. The amp will sing. UPDATE on 10-28-2015; Well, things have changed a lot in the last 3 years. I'm still using the ME-50 exclusively for playing in our classic rock band. But I'm using it differently these days and of course I think it sounds better than ever now. I sometimes use a 1970 Bassman, with a matching 2x12 cabinet, instead of the Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue as well. We play music from Wicked Game from Chris Isaak all the way to Man In A Box by Alice In Chains. We also play a lot of Zeppelin and CCR. So I still need a rig that is pretty darn versatile. So lately the way I've been setting up with the band is very simple. Guitar - ME-50 - Amp. Nothing else. And the ME-50 is simple too. I still don't use the tone modifier. I don't use the compressor anymore. And I barely ever touch the ME-50 anymore once I'm plugged in. The noise gate sits at 9 or 10 o'clock. The reverb sits somewhere on Hall. For distortion I just leave in on Tube Screamer all night. Gain at 3 o'clock. Bottom at 3 o'clock also. Tone at 1 or 2 o'clock and Level at 12 oclock. I am totally blown away with this set up. I'm playing with the knobs on my guitar a lot more, but every sound I'm looking for can be found there now. For clean I simply roll the volume on my guitar down. Even with the Tube Screamer on, I get a great classic clean tone this way. And as I turn up the volume the tone gets dirty really fast. On max volume my guitar is wailing like Carlos Santana. Plus the guitar is super dynamic. I can go from clean to dirty simply by playing lighter and heavier. And the tone is amazing. In your face and with no mud at all. So there you have it. That's the way to get awesome classic rock tones from this unit. However.I am using a guitar with hotter pickups these days. My Strat with the low output HS-3s did not like this set up.https://www.hagensmarketing.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626f397b889f0---bosch-vip-10-manual.pdf My guitar today has Seymour Duncan designed JB and 59er pickups in it. I'm also playing my amp pretty loud. So when I push things the amp is adding some dirt of it's own. And the tone is just classic. That's the point. So, a trick I want to share is that the ME-50 has a most amazing chorus, but it's not the chorus. It's the harmonizer. Just set all the knobs at 12 o'clock on that harmonizer and be prepared to hear the most awesome chorus sound. It's great for anything, and that includes metal. Nothing else at this time except that after 10 years of abuse it's still working like new. Please try again later. Please try again later. M. Koehler 4.0 out of 5 stars I was woried that the Amp Modeling function would not be very good, but I was pleasantly wrong. The line-out function into the house PA provides excellent sound. The amp-modeling is transparent to the user, and you can focus on your effects while the ME-50 manages the amp modeling to automatically give a good sound. The metal housing and heavy duty knobs were also far superior to the Line 6 Unit. In fairness, this unit costs more than the Line 6. Only downside is that you cannot switch thru the 10 saved sound banks with your foot, so you can only have 3 pedal settings plus whatever has been manually set for 4 settings during a song. Conversely the Line 6 provides extra pedals to allow switching sound banks on the fly. This is a minor issue for me, however, since I only use a few saved settings. Please try again later. Please try again later. Transfigured Knight 5.0 out of 5 stars I did some research on it and have found out one reason it sounds so good is because it's 24-bit. I only use a light amount of effects. I use the delay and sometimes the distortion on this unit. The ME-50 has a ton of distortion tones that you can setup to your liking and the same with modulation and delay. I previously had a lot of pedals hooked up in my chain like delays, distortions, compressors, etc.http://ontheedgeofnow.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626f398f4bf20---bosch-vip-x1-xf-manual.pdf, but the ME-50 eliminates a lot of room on the ground, which is nice. I am not impressed with Boss' reverb and never have been, but the beauty is you don't have to use the reverb on the unit. I run a Lexicon MPX-110 for my reverb and I believe this is something that Lexicon excels in. This unit is also built like a tank which I would expect nothing less from Boss. I would seriously think about getting one of these instead of forking over more more for a Boss GT-10.Please try again later. Please try again later. I sold them all, bought a used ME50 and came out ahead not just in cash, but in effects and reliability, too. The ME-50 gives me more sounds than I had before, along with more functions. You can run the ME50 right into a PA, or record direct from it. You can even pug in headphones. Add a CD or MP3 player, and use it for practicing or learning tunes. And it's super simple to use. You don't need to look at the manual unless you want to play with the programmability features. Just plug in, switch it on, and start turning knobs. Everything is clearly laid out. For the money, I think it's a fantastic package. It's the equivalent of seven or eight Boss pedals in one box, and gives you the ability to program combinations of preset sounds on top of that. I'll probably keep it forever. Please try again later. Please try again later. pmv 4.0 out of 5 stars But you can of course always program patches and use those in your songs. IF you like the Boss sound, this is a perfect buy: many Boss stompboxes for the price of a few. Chorus, flanger, phaser are very good, the univibe and rotary I find soso, the other I never used. Delay section is excellent. Compression, noise control, reverb, it's all there and works very well. The tone modulation works too though I hardly used. It is super easy to use and set up, the wahwah and octave expression pedal work great. The octave setting does a good job of imitating the Dunlop whammy bar (albeit with less range I think).cysasdo.com/geektic/files/commercial-drivers-license-manual-oklahoma.pdf Very good value if you know the price of the latter. Though I can wholeheartedly recommend this box, I don't own it anymore as I am travelling a lot and wanted something smaller and lighter. So I got a Zoom G1 and now that I am resident again, I got a Zoom G2.1NU. I prefer the distortion sounds of the Zoom, but heh, that's just me. It is solidly built and will do great at gigs. Again, IF you like the Boss sound you will not be dissapointed, buy it!Please try again later. Please try again later. The free BOSS TONE STUDIO software unlocks even more tonal possibilities, providing a cool graphical interface for tweaking and organizing sounds on your computer, plus a web connection to BOSS TONE CENTRAL for direct access to free gig-ready patches created by top pro guitarists and much more. A complete history of gig-ready BOSS tone processing is at your command, from multiple overdrives and distortions to wahs, mod effects, pitch shifters, delays, and beyond. BOSS groundbreaking Multi Dimensional Processing (MDP) technology is represented with the unique, spacious ambience of Tera Echo and the distinctive tone-shaping possibilities of Overtone. The onboard expression pedal can be used for foot volume and pedal effects like wah, octave shift, and Freeze, and its also possible to control effects parameters such as mod rate, delay oscillation, and more for expressive real-time sound shaping. Instant Gratification with Dedicated Knobs Unlike typical menu-driven multi-effects processors that are complicated and unintuitive, using the ME-80 is as easy as using a stompbox. Effects are organized into eight logical categories that can all be active at the same time. Seven categories contain multiple effects types to choose from, plus dedicated knobs for selecting a type and adjusting it with a set of parameters youd find in the pedal version of the effect. The Pedal FX category has its own knob for quickly assigning a particular effects type or function to be controlled by foot with the expression pedal. With this familiar and friendly interface, youre able to dial up and play great tones instantly, just like using a large pedalboard filled with your favorite stomps. But a major advantage over that pedalboard is that you can to save all the current knob settings to one of the ME-80s 36 user patch locations, allowing you to recall custom effects configurations at the touch of a pedal. Stompbox Immediacy or Multi-FX Power: You Decide The hands-on experience that stompbox control provides is perfect for tweaking tones as you go. However, there are times when switching among an entire group of preset effects is more efficient, such as when youve set up complex tones for different songs. The flexible ME-80 supports either approach, giving you the best of worlds. By entering Memory mode, seven footswitches are automatically reconfigured to select user or preset patches and patch banks, letting you recall complete multi-effects setups directly. One footswitch on the ME-80 is dedicated just for mode switching, so you can toggle between Manual and Memory modes any time you want, even in the middle of a song. The newly developed footswitch style provides two switches in the space occupied by one in previous designs, allowing BOSS to equip the ME-80 with a generous array of foot-operated controls while keeping the unit extremely compact and mobile. In addition to the eight main footswitches, the expression pedal is equipped with an integrated toe switch that toggles between foot volume and the current Pedal FX setting. Its also possible to monitor the ME-80s effects sound while recording an unprocessed signal into a DAW track; after the fact, use the USB Loopback function to re-amp the dry track with the ME-80, tweaking the knobs as you listen to the song to capture the perfect tone. MIDI transfer over USB is also supported, allowing you to select ME-80 patches from your computer, send expression and control pedal data into your software, and swap patches via BOSS TONE STUDIO. Edit and Organize Tones and Connect to the Web with BOSS TONE STUDIO Available as a free download, the BOSS TONE STUDIO application provides an inviting graphical interface for tweaking the ME-80s effects from your Mac or Windows computer through USB. The software makes it easy to save, edit, and organize your patches, and to load them into the ME-80 as needed for different gigs and other applications. If your computer has Internet access, BOSS TONE STUDIO also provides an integrated connection to the BOSS TONE CENTRAL website, allowing you to preview and download gig-ready patches created by top guitar pros directly into your ME-80. In addition to expanding your palette of tones, these free patches provide solid foundations for creating your own patches with the ME-80s extensive array of effects. BOSS TONE CENTRAL: Your Web Home for Free Patches, Instructional Vids, Artist Tips, and More BOSS TONE CENTRAL is the ultimate destination for all players that use BOSS guitar and bass gear. The initial focus of this powerful new web portal is on the ME-80, but compact stomps and other BOSS multi-effects will be included as the site grows. Right now, you have access to lots of great ME-80 content, including demo videos and free patches created by famous guitarists, touring pros, and session players. Check back often for additional patches, how-to videos, artist interviews, and much more. If you love BOSS effects, BOSS TONE CENTRAL is the place to be! For me personally this is a plus as I dont want to go through a battery of menus and sub menus to set up a tone i like. Sure, this processor is slightly less versatile than an equivalently priced Zoom G5n, but the BOSS is so easy to use, intuitive and quick. The build quality is amazing. I absolutely adore it and would definitely recommend it. For computer connection it installs instantly and the software is also very easy to use. My past processor was a line6 pod (bean) so this is a nice upgrade. I think it has all the effects I'll ever really need. I just wish BOSS wasn't so cheap and include a power supply, but other companies are guilty of that as well. Posted by George on Jul 8, 2020 Was this review helpful.
