I'm really looking to use the HR-2 for its octave functions, though the harmonies may be fun to glitch around on and the detune may be kinda cool for getting an extra chorus type sound. I suppose my questions are as follows: Are the octaves good on the HR-2? I play post-punk stuff with ambient swells and sometimes post-rock, so I figured this pedal could add an entire new dimension to the sounds of those swells and to some of my lead lines. I don't really want to complicate my setup with extra cables cuz space is more important to me. If I do trade for this thing, I assume I should put it right at the beginning of my chain after my tuner, correct. I see most people doing this and I understand that helps the tracking and it'll feed my Muff clone a bit better. The Harmonist being offered is evidently a pink label. Does that make much of a noticeable difference. It tracked poorly and I didn't like the detune effect very much. It was quite unintuitive to control but I imagine you could get used to them after a while. I can't answer many of your questions because I played with it for only a few minutes, but in those eight or so minutes of fiddling, I didn't happen upon any pleasant sounding settings, so I'd steer clear of it. The Boss PS-5 and PS-6 show up for far cheaper used, and more frequently, get one of those and read the manual they have online. I'd rather get good octaves for swells, so I may refocus my attention on saving for a Pitchfork or something. If I were going to try to use the HR-2, I'd definitely be using the Detector In. If you did try it, that would be how I would do it too. I'm about 99 sure that the HR-2 would have a really hard time shifting the signals coming out of a Muff clone, whereas you will have a much better chance going in before it. But in all honesty I used a Voice-live 3 as my main vocal processor and this harmony pedal sounded very digital in comparison.I returned it. It was not the pedal I was looking for. I have found all harmony pedals are very touchy.just a little too much and it sounds robotic. If you play around you can get it just right and it is amazing. Plus the feature of either you setting the key, letting the guitar do it or a blend of both is great, especially if you incorporate lead guitar. It also feels sturdy.has that Boss feel.i can step on it without fear. Some other ones I have used feel kind of fragile. The batteries last me for a 2 or 3 hour gig or much longer if only using for chorus harmonies.I use the higher end batteries. All in all for the price it is a handy little tool to add to the kit, especially if you are a solo act or even to fill out a band sound. Posted by Mike Boyce on Oct 6, 2016 Was this review helpful.But if you apply the harmonies sparingly - almost subliminally,and just in choice spots - it can add so much to any performance, solo or with a band.After maybe an hour or less of experimenting, I found the perfect settings for my voice in a variety of applications. The end result is that my vox are warmer, clearer, fuller and so much more lush than I could've even imagined coming through my PA system, or any other. But the way I see it, the conversion of voice to electronic signals through a microphone is an unnatural process; It doesn't sound natural. Only some frequencies are reproduced, making your voice less than what it is. Why not use the medium to make it more, rather than less. If you don't overdo it, your voice can actually sound more natural in some ways than it does without the processor. Bottom line: Buy it! You won't regret it.
