Definitely keeping this company in mind if we ever need another pair! Over the years I have spent hundreds to purchase various systems. These always come with a transmitter and a headset receiver. Life expectancy is about 9 months even with the most expensive sets I have owned. I now have accumulated a cabinet full of IR transmitters. For the past year I have been searching for just a headset that would work with a standard IR receiver with little luck until I found the Boss HP12. There are many headsets offered here and elsewhere. I have tried several and none have ever picked up the IR signal from my transmitter or from any of the RF transmitters I have owned over the years. The HP12 is perfect for just listening to the TV. It is sturdy and seems to have a switch that will last. If this turns out not to be the case. We use them on our 2014 Chrysler Town. We use them on our 2014 Chrysler Town and Country. We just put in batteries and they worked. Our 5 year old uses them and he likes that you can change the colors. Thank you. Please try again I must say, at first I was very impress by it's quality and usability. But, after about halfway through our trip, I did notice some drawbacks to the head phones. They don't feel cheaply made and don't rattle like my OEM versions did. My kids can be a little rough at times with the earphones and after stowing them in our car's side bin, the earphones wouldn't work. This was very aggravating since my kids would constantly be saying they they were broken. Easily fixed if you open the battery compartment back open and slide the batteries back into place. But still, very aggravating. -The battery compartment lid. After several times adjusting the batteries, I did notice that the cap seems to open pretty easily. Too easily. If I have to keep adjusting the batteries like I am, it seems that this cap may no longer work. Plastic will wear down over time, so I will need to make sure to keep an eye on them. May need to tape it to make sure I don't loose it. Other Notes: -If you have an above average size cranium, you may find the earphones a little tight. My kids had no problems, but for adults it may be too tight. I personally found them fine. I may add my own to help it out? -When I first synced the earphones, all of the volumes were set all the way up, so be careful on your first time! -Batteries were not supplied by the manufacture, so make sure you have your own AAA batteries. (Two of them) Overall, I feel that my purchase was a good one. I think these earphones will last longer than the OEM versions. Also from Radio Shack, I bought an audio Y cable, that has 2 MALE adapters on one end (RCA plugs) for left and right audio (these are the red and white RCA cables that you've seen with old VCR connections). These plug in directly to the female RCA adapters that are connected with the transmitter. The Y adapter I bought has a headphone jack on the other end. With my set up, I wanted to plug directly into the receiver's headphone jack. We also have Samsung TVs that have a headphone jack in the back so we can plug it into the back of the TV as well. So basically, you wire the AC adapter to the transmitter wires and insert into the AC to DC wall adapter and plug it in the wall to get your power. Then you attach the RCA male cables to the Female wires on the transmitter and plug that into a headphone jack to connect to the sound source. You could also get RCA cables that have 2 males on both ends if you have that kind of output on a TV or DVD player. These are normally in the back of the unit and also colored red an white. Newer electronics are all HDMI and Optical cable inputs and outputs, so see what you have first before you buy your cables. The transmitter works well. Just locate it in front of where everyone sits and you are good to go. The one thing to note is that since this is an IR transmitter, if you walk in front of the TV or move away from the front of it transmitter, the headphones will lose the audio signal. You probably have a range of 5-6 feet left or right from the middle of your TV if you put the transmitter in the middle. So do not buy these if you plan on walking around your house and listen to the TV through the headphones. UPDATE AUG 2017 -- After 5 years of use our Boss headphones still work perfectly. When the time comes to buy new phones, I'll look at Boss brand first.These are made for in the car but we had the necessary RCA adapters to hook it up to our TV as well as the power source that Amazon paired with the headphone purchase. They work fine and sound quality is fine as long as you don't turn the headset volume up to much. When you do that you get a little bit of ocean sound with it, not static, just what I call ocean sound. But there is no delay in watching people's mouths move on the set and hearing what they're saying. It is TOTALLY line of site, as is expected with IR. If I walk across the room crossing the path between the transmitter and my husband's headset it cuts out for that second but immediately picks back up. This was a Christmas present and doesn't get high use but I am glad I bought it. I am happy with this brand.
