I'm really looking to use the HR-2 for its octave functions, though the harmonies may be fun to glitch around on and the detune may be kinda cool for getting an extra chorus type sound. I suppose my questions are as follows: Are the octaves good on the HR-2? I play post-punk stuff with ambient swells and sometimes post-rock, so I figured this pedal could add an entire new dimension to the sounds of those swells and to some of my lead lines. Will I need to switch the key knob for octave sounds when I play every time. That seems like it could be annoying. I don't really want to complicate my setup with extra cables cuz space is more important to me. If I do trade for this thing, I assume I should put it right at the beginning of my chain after my tuner, correct. I see most people doing this and I understand that helps the tracking and it'll feed my Muff clone a bit better. The Harmonist being offered is evidently a pink label. Does that make much of a noticeable difference. It tracked poorly and I didn't like the detune effect very much. It was quite unintuitive to control but I imagine you could get used to them after a while. I can't answer many of your questions because I played with it for only a few minutes, but in those eight or so minutes of fiddling, I didn't happen upon any pleasant sounding settings, so I'd steer clear of it. The Boss PS-5 and PS-6 show up for far cheaper used, and more frequently, get one of those and read the manual they have online. I'd rather get good octaves for swells, so I may refocus my attention on saving for a Pitchfork or something. If I were going to try to use the HR-2, I'd definitely be using the Detector In. If you did try it, that would be how I would do it too. I'm about 99 sure that the HR-2 would have a really hard time shifting the signals coming out of a Muff clone, whereas you will have a much better chance going in before it. This means to change keys you'll be bending down on a dark stage with a sax (maybe a guitar) hanging off your neck. I tried setting it on a stool where I could more easily reach the knobs, but then there was the problem of cancelling it with my foot I've taken to setting it to the key of some song at the beginning of a set and using it then. Between sets I change the key if I need to, but between songs there's just no graceful way to get at it I like the pedal simply for the harmonies and won't return it. I haven't found any use for the s-bend or other affects, but that's not saying you won't. It's probably a guitar thing. Just be forewarned, it's execution is favorable but the design really fails. I leave the harmony knob on a third.The pitch shifter effect is actually incredible sounding, and with the ability to choose up to three voices, allows for some really cool stuff to happen to any simple riff you may have. It's nice when you go from three voices above to three voices below, and realize that what you are playing can practically act as two entirely different sounding songs. Very important always keep tuned your guitar And play accuratly within the key you are in, so the device can perform as good as it does.
