I had this one up and running in no time and was tweaking knobs like a pro. There is a ton of features, easy to get a great tone and it's a BOSS. It looks and sounds great with a simple interface via knobs and not menus so it shouldn't be intimidating to someone new to Multi-FX units. Reading the manual is a must for beginners but anyone with a modest amount of Multi-FX experience will be rocking this thing in no time.This is the perfect multi-purpose BOSS back for any of their floor or table-top multi-processors. I originally purchased one for my BOSS GT-8 and was so impressed by the quality and exceptional value I purchased two others; one for my BOSS RC-50 Loop Station and the other for my Roland GR-20 Guitar Synth. No more digging through a bag to find the right cords for three different units. BOSS definitely got it right with this accessory. I owned this many years ago when it was first released (I recently re-purchased it on ebay). It does have quite a learning curve, but has anything you could ever want as far as versatility. There are some Youtube videos you can check out for certain things, they can help. I thought the amp modeling was a neat addition to the GT series. Some people are extremely critical of the sounds from the amp models and such, but you just really need to be looking for that particular sound in what you are writing. I don't believe it has any bad sounds to it at all, it just needs the correct context for which it is being used. Sure it has some strange effects, but you never know what you might find yourself using. If you are a techy person, and love to press buttons, this unit is for you. There is no doubt you have to read the manual and it takes a little time. Once you have a grasp of the effects, you can start to enjoy your own input. It has made a huge difference in my playing. Takes some time to dial in The Gt-6 was my first MFX board. It is all digital unlike the gt-5 an.d gt-3 that have analog distortions. I prefer the gt-6. I like the sound of COSM and the way this board is set up. You are able to place any effect anywhere in the signal chain. It does not allow you to play two amps at the same time like the gt-8, but that is a feature I do not need. Have an old computer lying around. Put it to use and back up your patches via midi cable and the sound cards game port. BTW, The lead guitarist of Journey is said to be using this unit. If it is good enough for him, it is good enough for me. Built like a tank and takes up less space than a collection of stomp boxes and no cabling. Great for gigging. GET ONE! I have never saved anything on this pedal so I was not worried about loosing anything important knowing it would default to factory settings.I have a peavey amp that requires a battery for the memory and the amp doesn't work when the battery dies.(message says hard drive error!) not good in the middle of a gig when the amp sounds all fizzy and frapy ?? then shuts down over a 2 dollar battery ??. I have since gone back to Tube amps that do not require these silly batteries to keep any kind of memory alive! ?? I will never buy anything that requires a keep alive memory battery.I had to progra. I changed the battery on the GT6 and still had to reset it to factory defaults for it to work.But at least it came back to life,(not so lucky with the amp).When they assign a new serial number to a factory. To start viewing messages,By this i mean instead of the expression pedal controlling volume as its default, i want to assign say FX2 or FX1 to the expression pedal so as i can control the amount of effect going to the clean signal. So if the pedal was down then the sound would be without effect, and when i start to move the pedal more and more effect is added to the sound. I know this is possible as there are certain presets banks with effects that can be controlled by the expression pedal. I have tried to understand the manual but failed many many times miserablly. Any help would be great. ta. P.S. Damn, you guys are actually looking for sounds in this thing.I've been stoked about the fact that I finally figured out how to mute the tuner and run it to an actual pedal!!This means when you are making a new sound you can copy this default sound to the one you are about to make. That gives you a good starting point for your eq settings. But remember every sound you create might need a different eq setting anyway.
