I don't believe it has any bad sounds to it at all, it just needs the correct context for which it is being used. There is no doubt you have to read the manual and it takes a little time. Once you have a grasp of the effects, you can start to enjoy your own input. It has made a huge difference in my playing. Takes some time to dial in The Gt-6 was my first MFX board. It is all digital unlike the gt-5 an.d gt-3 that have analog distortions. I prefer the gt-6. I like the sound of COSM and the way this board is set up. You are able to place any effect anywhere in the signal chain. It does not allow you to play two amps at the same time like the gt-8, but that is a feature I do not need. Have an old computer lying around. Put it to use and back up your patches via midi cable and the sound cards game port. BTW, The lead guitarist of Journey is said to be using this unit. If it is good enough for him, it is good enough for me. Built like a tank and takes up less space than a collection of stomp boxes and no cabling. Great for gigging. GET ONE! I didn't care for it but the 4 cable method and manual mode was much better but still lacked, The amp still colored it then the gt6 colored it again, yuk. It actually sounded pretty good, then I got into the EQ section and played around there and it started to really shine. I didn't see it in the manual, but it should be put in writing to not use this with a guitar amp as it will sound like crap!!! I know a guy that used nothing but a VG88 on stage and their band pack the very large Vegas lounge to standing room only every night they played. No joke! Every one of their band members that played a guitar, including the keyboard player, (and he only did a couple of fills) had one programmed by this guy. They did classic rock covers, and I swear to you it was very difficult to tell them from the real thing. Now I realize why I never saw an amp on stage, they suck through a guitar amp. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut so I can grab maybe a gt-10 or something even better for a song. Is there somewhere I can find the differences between the 6 and 8? Some of the things I'm reading in the Brilliance article seem to reference stuff that I may not have in my 6. As far as the shifting error goes, I do have one that I have seen 3 or 4 times in the 4 years I've had it. The volume will drop out to just about nothing slowly. A quick little blip on the volume pedal returns it back to normal volume. I may not see it again for months on end. Like I said, for what I do, I'm not going to stress it. If the 8 is a far better unit and I can get a good deal, I will go for it. For now I'd just like to use it and have it sounding good. So much awesome info. I can't really fault the manual. Been reading the brilliance PDF and it says to adjust the input level to about the letter U on the meter. How in the world do I do that. I've search high and low. Read the friendly manual, searched google, and found some info in another thread, but have yet to figure it out. I have two guitars that do push into clipping(at least reading the meter), the worse of the two, my Jackson USA Soloist with a JB will push up to the last two indicators on the meter. Maybe you’ll have to set it full up (and maybe not). Play yourpatches and listen. I can find the High cut filters in the effects but not in the preamps section. Just to give you an idea, these are some facts and figures extracted from its Owner’s manual: Not bad, uh? Yes, but all these power brings complexity, and despite BOSS has made an excellent job in organizing the Human Machine Interface, simplifying it compared to the previous model BOSS GT-10 thanks to the “ two screen user interface “, the BOSS GT-100 is not easy to understand and manage.In practice, selecting a patch is just like if you completely changed the pedal board that you are using !! Through the AMP CTL jack you can even switch the channels of your amplifier, and the state of this output is programmable into the patches. If you are using a Marshall, it will never sound like a Fender, Vox, and vice versa. For example you can use the connections shown in figure 3 if you want to play stereo using 2 amplifiers: It’s stated that “ You’ll need to specify the type of device (amp) that’s connected to the OUTPUT jacks. The GT-100 will apply an internal adjustment so that the output will sound optimal on the system you are using. ” The wide set of diversified clean, overdriven and distorted tones that it can produce depends on them, and you cannot appreciate them with the schemes illustrated in figures 2 and 3. The reason is simple: if you use a preamp simulation into your GT-100 it shapes your guitar’s sound with its tonal characteristics and controls (gain, treble, middle, presence and so on), but your external amplifier will do the same a second time with its preamp section, and the resulting effect is not good. The last preamplifier tends to prevail, and you don’t hear a clear difference changing basic aspects of a tone. Only the BOSS GT-100 acts as the preamp, and in this way you can appreciate the powerful simulations of the COSM technology. Make a simple test: switch on only the preamp unit of your GT-100 and select as a type “ Clean TWIN “, that is a simulation of a Fender Twin Reverb amplifier, or “ BG Lead “, that simulates the lead sound of a Mesa Boogie combo amplifier, and listen by yourself. The insertion or not and the eventual switch of its channels are programmable into the patches. It’s stated that “ You’ll need to specify the type of device (amp) that’s connected to the OUTPUT jacks. The GT-100 will apply an internal adjustment so that the output will sound optimal on the system you are using. ” The reason is that the loudspeakers and cabinet of your amplifier that reproduce the sound have an influence too on its tonal characteristics. The SP parameter has an interesting effect because let you simulate the characteristics of different speakers (number of cones, their diameter, and so on). This means that with the set-up above you do not have this possibility available. That is the Question But then I found myself get so comfort with it and I need some break though. So I traded it to others and got other pedals back. I still miss it. But I want my music to be more different.
