My question is: Can i use the GT-6 as seperate pedals like i can with the me-50 as well as use the preset mode. I know theres 2 bank select footswitches and 4 for effects. But what is the last one for? ( the one on the right side of the bottom row ) Is it also for selecting presets. Thanks a bunch ! I have an ME-50 myself but if i had the money i would of got a gt-6, strongly recommend it good luck! And it's used to confirm entries in several menu's. You’ll probably want to take advantage of this feature by assigning names that suggest the sound you’ll obtain, or the song in which it’ll be used. fig.02-10 1. The sound being input to each effect is called the “direct sound,” and the sound modified by the effect is called the “effect sound.”. Extinguished JC-120 JC CLEAN This is the sound of the Roland JC-120. Clean TWIN TW CLEAN This models a Fender Twin Reverb. This models a Fender Pro Reverb. Crunch CRUNCH This is a crunch sound that can pro- duce natural distortion. Bass Adjusts the tone for the low frequency range. Treble Adjusts the tone for the high frequency range. Level Adjusts the volume. DELAY This effect adds delayed sound to the direct sound, giving more body to the sound or creating special effects. This setting adjusts the frequency at which the low cut filter will begin to take effect. High Cut Filter The high cut filter cuts the frequencies above the specified frequency. Parametric control is provided for the high- mid range and low-mid range.Tone Adjusts the tone. Wave Shape This adjusts changes in volume level. The GT-6’s expression pedal automatically switches to the pedal bend function when PB is selected. Pitch Min This sets the pitch at the point where the expression pedal is fully lifted. Sensitivity This adjusts the sensitivity of the humanizer. When it is set to a lower value, no effect of the humanizer is obtained with weaker picking, while stronger picking produces the effect. When it is set to a higher value, the effect of the humanizer can be obtained whether the picking is weak or strong. Brass: The unit directly processes the input guitar sound and creates a guitar synthesizer sound. A parametric type is adopted for the high-middle and low-middle range. Low EQ (low equalizer) Adjusts the low frequency range tone. Settings for Using the Expression Pedal Normally, “FV”. Receiving Data from an External MIDI Device (Bulk Load) Making the Connections When Receiving Data Saved on a MIDI Sequencer Connect as shown below. Any MIDI equipped device is able to transmit applicable types of data to another MIDI equipped device, even if the two devices are different models or were made by different manufacturers. Exclusive messages xclusive messages handle information related to a unit’s own unique sounds, or other device-specific information. Generally, such messages can only be exchanged between devices of the same model by the same manufacturer. Normally, you select a sound by using the bank select message followed by a program change message. On the GT-6, these messages are used for changing patch numbers. I had been using just a Boss OD-3, PH-2, CE-5 and a Vox Wah. Just in terms of what the GT-6 does with respect to those devices, its good enough for me. And - no more multiple boxes to connect. Just some random ramblings about the GT-6. To me - manual mode is where its at. It's tough pre-defining combinations of effects and I prefer just mixing-n-matching effects dynamically. But it is sooo easy once you get the hang of it (just remember to save your settings!!!!) I did A-B the Fender Twin modeling against my DeVille 2x12 and with a little EQ tweaking - they are very, very close. Back-in-the-day I used to use a Big Muff Pi and the GT-6 models that VERY well. I like the preamp models and can get a very smooth Santana-like tone, attack, and sustain (think Europa). The Cry-Baby wah is also very good. It requires multiple power supplies and multiple connections between pedals. If any one of the power cords or connector cables goes bad, then the entire chain will fail and no sound will come out of your amp at all. It was very embarrassing because during the entire duration of where the solo was supposed to be, I was instead kicking wires around trying to “fix” the broken chain. It turns out that it was just a bad power cord, which was an easy fix. However, it was a major headache at the time. Processing pedals do an okay job of mimicking the sounds of real amplifiers, but it’s just not the real thing. Therefore, people avoid getting processor pedals and instead resort to using individual stomp boxes. I’ve also used previous Boss GT models to do the same thing (Boss GT-6, Boss GT-10, etc.), but I don’t know if other brand processors pedals can do this. In fact, all of the Boss GT processors are designed to function as a chain of individual stomp boxes if you choose to set it up that way. That’s assuming that you don’t want your pedal to function the “normal” way where each button is a completely different tone altogether. They had the GT-3, then the GT-6, then the GT-8, then the GT-10, and now they have the GT-100. They are kind of like iPhones and iPads in that they continuously upgrade their software and operating systems every couple of years. However, the Boss GT pedals don’t have the “bugs” that iPhones do because Boss takes their time with their upgrades. Boss is a company that takes pride in producing TOP QUALITY products. I purchased the GT-100 shortly after it came out, after using the GT-10 for many years, and just as I suspected, I fell in love immediately with the vast array of improvements that they made. Not that they GT-10 was a bad pedal or anything, but it did have room for some improvements. The GT-100 is now perfect for exactly what I look for in a multi-fx pedal! For this reason, I usually take 3 cables of equal length, and I tape them together. This simply keeps the cables from looking like a rat’s nest. The “preamp” within the pedal is also referred to as the “amp models”. You will be using your own amp’s sound instead. Therefore, you will not need to model other amp sounds. The newer models are much more user-friendly when it comes to setting up the 4-cable method. Every guitarist has their own pedal chain order preference, but there are pretty much universal “rules” as to what sounds best going into the front of your amp vs.This will then allow you to set one of your pedals to function as your amps’s footswitch. This is a VERY COOL feature that I just recently figured out! If you did everything correctly, than your amp should function just as it normally would, allowing you to switch between your clean and OD channels. Only now you have a nice little set of stomp boxes set up in front of you in a conveniently packaged multi-FX pedal! Boss’s primary selling point is in its amp modeling effects. Therefore, they don’t “promote” using the pedal as I do. They want people to simply use the “2 cable method” where you plug your guitar into the input of the pedal, then you plug the output of the pedal into the front of the amp. If you do that, then you are using 100 processed tone as opposed to using your amp’s natural tone. It sounds PHENOMENAL! I’m old af now and still at it!Can the gt6 also be configured like yours where pushing both fx pedals can get me into manual mode. Plus my amp has a parallel fx loop so it bleeds the dry signal which is fine for some effects but wah and pedal bend needs to be the full signal. So i figure these effects need to be pre amp whereas things like chorus and reverb can be post amp. Does the 4 wire method solve this issue? I love the 4cm! Then just connect the 4CM from there. Glen Delaune sells labels for the GT-100 on his site to help do exactly what you suggest. My only concern is that the individual stompboxes are not always the same in the patches and if I want to use manual mode and also use patches sometimes, it might be confusing if I label one footswitch Chorus but it is assigned to some other effect in some patches. I used it in manual mode for gigs, and I switched from using Vst amps sims on the PC, to using the GT10 directly into my Emu 1616m audio Interface. My sound Improved a lot.Plugging into and interface using the preamps. Yes the Dual screen makes it easier in the programming side of things. The problem is you have to go into the menu for everything. I got used to reaching over and turning on and off delay compression etc on the GT10 (in desktop mode) so in fact its more confusing and time consuming for me. In a lot of youtube video comparisons the GT100 sounded very Muddy even Honky to me. I found this true of the unit in my experience. I did not like any of the preamps. My tele sounded Ok, the strat was just OK, but none of the Amps liked my Les Paul. I like my shimmering clean strat sound and hi-gain humbucker drop D downpicking riffs. I could achieve neither. I know people who swear by the sensitivity of the vintage amps with old vintage guitars. If i was gigging more than recording, I would use this (for the improved manual mode) but for studio versatility I will stick to my GT10. This is a very good product. All the videos on YouTube reviewing it do not do it any justice at all.(Since I'm guessing that just like me.All I can say. as soon as plugged it in it's amazing. The tones are clear, very rich in texture and depth, more than what you would expect from a floor unit like this. It really feels like you have that live amp behind you driving your tone.You have a lot of options and to be quite fair and you can get lost in it all. So having some knowledge on how to tweak a pedal, amp, EQ a bit will come in handy for sure. Overall opinion: The thing's amazing. Tones are good, it's literally built like a tank.I see this as being usable both in-studio and live without any problems. But you do need to set it up right or else you might get not get the best tones out of it. Also my sound engineer loves it. NOTE: Be prepared to spend some time to get to know the unit. I've had GT6 for a long time and it was great, but this is light years away. Dual displays make it easy to see everything. Easy to surf through the menus, everything intuitive. Within seconds you can go and set your tone up to your liking. Effect chain is totally flexible and effects can be placed anywhere. I use this in 4 cable method and it is excellent in this mode. Effects before my preamp, whatever I want. Effects after my preamp, whatever I want. Don't want my preamp. No problem - I can use simulated preamp within GT100. Effect list is endless. This processor really surprised me and went beyond my expectations. Only minor downside is tone coloring. It does color the tone in 4 cable method, no matter what global setting is used. So equalizer effect should be used to balance this. From what I see on the internet, it seems that most competitors suffer the same. Tone purists should stick to pedals or go for rack units.During that time I slowly acquired some habits of tone purists, go figure:-) It was there before but I never paid attention to it - I was never satisfied with the COSM amp models. GT6 was not up to my liking. BR80 based on GT10 did not have what I needed. GT100 as well. All of those do not have good crunch or distortion for my ear. It is not responsive and dynamic as it should be, it sounds cheap in all those products. I couldn't put my finger on it until I recently got VOX Tonelab ST. It's not mind blowing and it has it's faults, but that little VOX is way ahead COSM models. Dynamic and organic playing way above COSM models - for crunch and higher gain also. I don't know about other Tonelab units, but ST does the job way better. Note that cleans are good in COSM world, it is just that driven stuff sounds cheap. So if you're after fine art of dynamic playing and your ears are refining through the years, do not go for this unit. This unit can only give you excellent and mind blowing effects, combinations, routings, user intuitiveness, and robustness that is hardly available elsewhere for this price. If you plan to use it that way, keep in mind of tone coloring I mentioned in my original review. For all others that are mostly high gain shredders - this unit will satisfy you. Though I see that even some high gain shredders don't like what they hear from COSM models, just like me. So if your ears are starting to hear something you don't like then pay attention. Do your homework and search for something else. Youtube can come handy but also sometimes misleading because people leave poor recordings. Day by day, you might find you need more money to satisfy the need, but that's what usually happens when sensitivity grows in you. It actually sounded pretty good, then I got into the EQ section and played around there and it started to really shine. I didn't see it in the manual, but it should be put in writing to not use this with a guitar amp as it will sound like crap!!! I know a guy that used nothing but a VG88 on stage and their band pack the very large Vegas lounge to standing room only every night they played. No joke! Every one of their band members that played a guitar, including the keyboard player, (and he only did a couple of fills) had one programmed by this guy. They did classic rock covers, and I swear to you it was very difficult to tell them from the real thing. Now I realize why I never saw an amp on stage, they suck through a guitar amp. Maybe I should keep my mouth shut so I can grab maybe a gt-10 or something even better for a song. I mean if they knew why it sounded so bad maybe they would keep them, hahaha. Now that I have it sounding better its time to play around with all of the patches Gumtown has with the floor board software. I can see an upgrade in my future. GT-8, 10, or not? The GT-10 has far more features than the GT-8, but many did not like the baked in tone it produced. Is there somewhere I can find the differences between the 6 and 8? Some of the things I'm reading in the Brilliance article seem to reference stuff that I may not have in my 6. As far as the shifting error goes, I do have one that I have seen 3 or 4 times in the 4 years I've had it. The volume will drop out to just about nothing slowly. A quick little blip on the volume pedal returns it back to normal volume. I may not see it again for months on end. Like I said, for what I do, I'm not going to stress it. If the 8 is a far better unit and I can get a good deal, I will go for it. For now I'd just like to use it and have it sounding good. So much awesome info. I can't really fault the manual. If you think its bad you should read my very old Zoom 1010 manual, lol, its worse than horrible. Been reading the brilliance PDF and it says to adjust the input level to about the letter U on the meter. How in the world do I do that. I've search high and low. Read the friendly manual, searched google, and found some info in another thread, but have yet to figure it out. I have two guitars that do push into clipping(at least reading the meter), the worse of the two, my Jackson USA Soloist with a JB will push up to the last two indicators on the meter. I've got the Floorboard software running but I can't find it in there either. Can one of you nice gentlemen show me where to adjust this? Thanks guy. Well I guess that explains why I can't find it. So, do I not worry about it? Then, set your level withthe little black knob near the guitar input of your GT. Maybe you’ll have to set it full up (and maybe not). Play yourpatches and listen. I can find the High cut filters in the effects but not in the preamps section. I'm assuming that it does not exist in the gt6, is that correct. Sorry for all the retarded questions. Seems that these two systems are more different than I thought. The GT-6 does not have this.
