You don't hang off it at all, I like this because I can operate this very smoothly with my size 13 feet. There isn't a tension cord that pulls it back once you're done pushing on it, it just sits freely wherever you want it to. You could use this to kill the sound, keep the sound on, or even make volume swells in ambient fashions. The lone volume knob on it is also quite handy since most pedals like these nowadays don't come with them. It's quite handy if you use overdrive along with it since you can leave the minimum volume to something not too loud and then use the pedal to get a nice big volume swell or a sudden attack when needed. The only real downside to this pedal is that the surface where your foot is placed has a stippled texture, but it doesn't have good grip unless you use shoes. Using this pedal with socks can be somewhat weird since you may or may not slide around when trying to put pressure down. I purchased this pedal for a mere 40 dollars used, and managed to get a leather case that was originally sold with it. It does work well for swells in case you wondered, but I use a compressor first, which makes any volume pedal shine. The resistance is super easy to adjust - you just need an Allen wrench. It would take a long time for anything to break (if ever), but may need a bit of greasing after awhile. The benefits of a smaller pedal can outweigh the better sweep of a Dunlop or Ernie Ball though if you are looking for more space. My guess is if you have this problem, one of the units might not show the full range of MIDI values.
