You don't hang off it at all, I like this because I can operate this very smoothly with my size 13 feet. There isn't a tension cord that pulls it back once you're done pushing on it, it just sits freely wherever you want it to. You could use this to kill the sound, keep the sound on, or even make volume swells in ambient fashions. The lone volume knob on it is also quite handy since most pedals like these nowadays don't come with them. It's quite handy if you use overdrive along with it since you can leave the minimum volume to something not too loud and then use the pedal to get a nice big volume swell or a sudden attack when needed. The only real downside to this pedal is that the surface where your foot is placed has a stippled texture, but it doesn't have good grip unless you use shoes. Using this pedal with socks can be somewhat weird since you may or may not slide around when trying to put pressure down. I purchased this pedal for a mere 40 dollars used, and managed to get a leather case that was originally sold with it. If you ever find the chance to buy one, don't sleep on this pedal, it's a hidden gem in my opinion. Du anvander for tillfallet en gammal webblasare. Josh 4.0 out of 5 stars Seeing decent reviews, smaller size of this pedal, and a good price I went for it. Pros: obviously, the size. The size is perfect and frees up a busy pedalboard. It does work well for swells in case you wondered, but I use a compressor first, which makes any volume pedal shine. The resistance is super easy to adjust - you just need an Allen wrench. The internals are nice and simple too. It turns the 250K volume pot with a plastic cog system rather than a string or belt. It would take a long time for anything to break (if ever), but may need a bit of greasing after awhile. The housing is also all metal (although it looks plastic), so very durable as with any hard-working BOSS pedal. Cons - the sweep is not perfect especially since it is a smaller pedal.https://www.becompta.be/emploi/bosch-kan58a40gb-manual There's a bit of a dead space at the heel end and more of the volume gain happens at the toe end. But as with any volume pedal, it's a matter of acclimating to how the particular pedal works. And with the cog system you can feel more resistance at a certain point in the sweep, but it's more noticable when moving it with your hand than your foot. Also, the volume pot is not sealed, so it could be prone to start crackling if you play at some dusty gigs or don't store it covered. If you're handy with a soldering iron I'm sure the pot is replaceable though or can be cleaned since it is not sealed. Overall, I'd recommend this pedal. If you are used to a larger volume pedal, it would take a little time to adjust to this since the sweep is smaller. The benefits of a smaller pedal can outweigh the better sweep of a Dunlop or Ernie Ball though if you are looking for more space. It does exactly what I need it to do for a reasonable price, but isn't perfect. 4 stars! It would be perfect then. It's a little touchy, but that's OK. I only use it a couple of times a night. I set the sound I want on all other pedals in my system, then dial in the volume I need. I may have to raise or lower volume slightly, once we start playing. The size makes it work perfectly for my needs. I dropped 1 star, due to the sensitive touch needed with this pedal, but everything else is good. I'd get 1 again.I like the smaller form factor, too. Of course it works to raise and lower volume. My only nitpick is that the sweep of volume change isn't as broad as I'd like. That means that the range of motion of 0 to 100 is narrower than I'd prefer, meaning I have to be very gentle with it when doing volume swells (my primary use). It takes some getting used to, which is something you'll want to consider.Quite Durable and works fine, and with the weight stays put better than other plastic ones I’ve had. Regardless it is quality and makes volume changes hands free.http://anapanic.com/images/boss-fv-100-manual.pdfThis solved that problem as well as gave me other neat abilities. Before to get the desired tone I was too loud in the mix. Now I can also do volume swells or fade myself in and out. True this could be done with the volume knob, but this is better. It's got a real nice stiff travel, so leaving the treadle in one place is no problem.I'll get used to it, I suppose, but it's not as good as the FV-500H in this respect. The pros are that it's very solidly built, the action is smooth and it's small.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. This cool little trick was shared with us by our good friend Chad. This article will be the last on expression pedals specifically, although there are many other interesting diy projects we can do in the future with the EXP input on Strymon gear. That’s all there is to it. Now you can use volume pedals like the popular Ernie Ball VP Jr or the new Dunlop DVP-1 as expression pedals for your Strymon gear and most other gear featuring expression pedal control. What is actually going on here is that we’re taking advantage of the design of a passive volume pedal and re-wiring it as an expression pedal with this cable. Note that your volume pedal needs to be passive, not active and the impedance (value of the resistance) in the volume pedal’s potentiometer isn’t critical. One thing that may be a little bit different about using the volume pedal as an expression is that if the volume pedal uses an audio taper potentiometer you won’t get a linear sweep of expression pedal values from toe to heel. In other words, much of the action will happen at one extreme of the pedal. That would be spectacular, especially with the Lex. The Morley is active. I had the pedal modded so that a certain knob is able to be expression controlable. If so how much? Thanks for reading ?? Man, ya’ll’s customer service is great. And fast! ?? Would love to do this expression trick and to also send tap tempo control into a separate external pedal because I feel like i could break the timeline by tapping it so much. Thank u! The expression pedal input will only do one thing at a time, so you’d need to choose either external tap or expression. Though you could use a midi controller to control your tap if you like. Hope this helps. ?? I have a midi controller that I use to trigger the looper Impedance is a re-active measurement and requires a cap or inductor of some sort in the circiut. One question: does the Hosa STP-201 come in shorter lengths? So I am going to brush up on my basic electronics schematic reading and modify the pedal to use TRS connectors on a single cable. And the nice thing about it is that it’s a stereo pedal- it has a dual pot so I can make it a double CV pedal- just because I can. This will work well enough for rehearsals. Here’s why: If they’re not the same voltage (and there is no standard), one unit will be draining current from the other. My guess is if you have this problem, one of the units might not show the full range of MIDI values. But I wouldn’t do this with arbitrary gear, or two units from different manufacturers (even if one of them is a Strymon). My guess is if you have this problem, one of the units might not show the full range of MIDI values. It’s there for all things that people might do to abuse the output. It doesn’t protect from all possible scenarios but should handle most. The other trick of using a stereo pedal would be far better. But I can’t turn off the expression pedal, it’s on even if it’s set to “off” in the parameters. Could that be because of the cable? It’s tough to say what the issue could be without knowing what kind of expression pedal you are using.Anyone know why? I have the 250K EB Jr and when I plug the TRS cable in(as shown above), the reverb still comes through no matter where the pedal is set at. Could I be missing something? If I were to make a custom cable. Thanks! Derek You would need to use a dedicated MIDI controller into the MIDI ports or use the VP Jr as an expression pedal into the EXP jack only following the suggestions from this article. I am dying to try this, but don’t want to risk damage to the Avid or Zoom. Thanks for any help you can give. Just turned my Boss Volume FV-100 into an expression pedal. I ask because it is rated at 500k and has dual in’s and out’s. I was thinking it might function as both a volume pedal and a expression pedal. If I deselect the preset with the expression pedal will I revert to strictly volume? Thanks! You can try this out to verify, but I think using it for just expression control or just a volume pedal would be easier to manage. I have tried to do this, but without success. You can use the MIDI Specification page at the back of the manuals for our larger pedals to program your controller to the messages you would like to send.Or can this trick be done with a single male to male TRS patch cable? My ultimate goal is to have an expression pedal running through a Mission Engineering Expressionator, so that I can have one expression pedal for 3 other pedals. I wonder if this method would work in reverse. So plug the TRS into an expression pedal and then the tip into the input of the volume pedal and the ring into the output of a volume pedal. If this trick does work in reverse, I would use the expression pedal into the expressionator and one of the out puts being used by the nose pedal. I have a real problem with real estate so having a proper volume pedal and an expression pedal is not an option. (I hope I’ve explained myself well?) This would only work if the volume pedal has an expression input as your audio signal would still need to pass through the volume pedal.Do you think I could use a stereo volume pedal with two inputs and two outputs to simultaneously work as two expression pedals. I have four effects on my board that I want expression pedals for and I have room for no more than two expression pedals. I looked into trs ab boxes as expression splitters but they claim they can only run one pedal at a time and that deselected pedals will automatically default to toe down function. Trying to figure it out but can’t seem to get it to work with my vp jr. I have just embarked on the journey also. I will be gutting mine and installing this setup. What are your thoughts on this? I will definitely apply the tricks you mentioned and let see If I could achieve the stuff. In Russia, this cable is not specifically sold((( What other brands can you advise. Please help me! THX Just ask for any 6.3mm TRS to dual 6.3mm TS insert cables, and you’ll be good. I have an RJM Mastermind PBC, a Mission Engineering SP1-RJM and 3 Strymon Pedals (Mobius, TimeLine, BigSky). Is there any way at all I can use my expression pedal in conjunction with at least one of these Strymon Pedals and make it act as a volume control? (I have no room for anything else on my pedalboard) Of course only after all the “heel” toe “settings. After contact with Strymon Support (Gohan Ruiz) I got informed: the whole thing would not work with EB Vol. Pedals. Ok, I bought three Korg Moogerfoogers EP (recommended by Gohan) Again, the same problem: I want to mix the “dry” signal with the “wet” signal. Thanks so much. Hugo. The circuit within a pedal’s expression jack reads a voltage, from 0 volts to 5 volts, and adjusts one of its sonic parameters accordingly. The most basic expression pedals don’t have or need power, because the voltage comes from the effects devices they’re plugged into. An expression pedal’s foot control simply divides that voltage, resulting in more or less voltage. Plug the TRS end into a pedal’s “EXP” input, the “ring” plug of the Y cable into the input of the volume pedal, and the “tip” end into the volume pedal output, and you’ve got it (see diagram). Illustration by Dan Formosa The values of the potentiometers in the hacked pedals would need to be changed to 10k ohms or 25k ohms, and you may find other limitations in their operation—but they will work. You can gracefully ease in and out of echo, for example, or add reverb only when needed. Given the control an expression pedal allows, you might even be able to downsize your pedalboard. Who can argue with coaxing more sounds from fewer devices. If you already have an effects unit with an expression pedal jack, you owe it to yourself to at least borrow a foot controller and plug in to explore the possibilities. There’s nothing to lose and potentially much to gain. Or, as guitar tech Sheppard suggests, “They are not for everyone, but if you are constantly bending over to adjust the dials on your effects pedals, you may be a great candidate.” If you’re willing to take a deep dive into advanced signal processors and amp emulators, you’ll have the ability to assign an expression pedal to any number of effects within their capabilities. Expression pedals can be assigned to control wah, pitch shifting, tremolo, reverb, rotary spin, delay, overdrive, compression, distortion, fuzz, chorus, flanger, phaser, harmonizer, and other effects. You can also control the curves at which those effects operate, and assign an expression pedal to control multiple effects at once. It will take a quick—or maybe lengthy, depending on the device—study of a unit’s manual to understand how it will work best with an expression pedal, but the possibilities are typically vast.
