The 4 knobs (manual, depth, rate and resonance) allow the users to shape the sound as desired -- from dynamic jet-plane effects to short delay, chorus and vibrato sounds. Connect an oscilloscope to TP-1 test point. Rotate the MANUAL knob fully clockwise.Feed a 200Hz, sine wave, 0dBm signal into the INPUT jack. Connect the oscilloscope to Q3's emitter. While turning MANUAL across its entire rotation range, set VR6 for a clip-free waveform at the peaks.Plug short circuit into INPUT jack. Connect OUTPUT jack to an amplifier and speaker. While touching a screwdriver to TP-2, set VR5 to the point where oscillation begins. Using four controls, you can tailor a variety of sounds--from dynamic jet-plane effects to short delay, chorus and vibrato sounds. The BF-2 has been around for a long time and is one of the most common flanger pedals. The earlier versions had all black knobs. These where later changed to the white top knobs. The change took place 1990, very close to the same time that production was moved to Taiwan There may be some BF-2’s in pink. This was the original colour choice, but it was changed to purple in the last minute. Whether some pink ones exixts out there is uncertain. It was changed to green in 1984. When production of the BF-2 moved to Taiwan 1990, the label kept its colour but was reprinted with the new country of origin. In 1994 the label was changed to orange. The CE-2B is the only other pedal to have use the orange label.http://geojeoceanhotel.com/userfiles/20200828192132.xml

Analogue flanger pedals first appeared in the late 1970s and fall into the category of modulation effects. They work by combining the original input signal with an electronically delayed signal. The evocative warm vintage analogue sounds are amongst the best of their breed, well up with the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress. This particular stomp box is in fantastic condition with hardly a mark to indicate its age. Unusually, it comes complete with its original box and instructions. To find out more, including how to control cookies, see here:He passed in Bakersfield. With the classic BOSS BF-2 Flanger, a flanging effect is produced by combining the original signal with an electronically delayed signal. The BF-2 features a special BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) circuit which greatly reduces the noise which is inherent in most electronic flangers. Whether some pink ones exists out there is uncertain. The TL022CP opamp was replaced with the Sharp IR9022 opamp at some point but apart from that, the circuit remained unchanged. Instead of putting the correct symbol in the schematic for the modulation ICs, they've just drawn actual ICs. We'll have to go looking for the opamps to better understand. To the best of our knowledge, most, but not all opamps have negative on pins 2 and 6, and positive on 3, and 5, but not always. As with other pedals, we'll have to put this on an oscilloscope to make sure whether it inverts phase or not. Those remaining transistors and opamps aren't touching the sound signal directly, and so do not affect the signal phase in the pedal. Flangers belong to the same family of modulation effects as chorus and phaser. The Boss BF-2 was produced by the company between 1981 and 2002, after which it was replaced by the BF-3 pedal which is still in production today. If that’s too technical, then the BF-2 is your ticket to a wonderful world of swirling, aeroplane-like sounds. Seriously, though, a flanger is a useful sonic colour to have at your disposal for those times when chorus is too tame and a phaser is too funky. As with other Boss pedals, there’s a 9V battery compartment accessible underneath the footswitch. MANUAL also acts as a fine-tuning knob, as some of the overtones produced by the pedal might not always sit nicely with the key of whatever you happen to be playing. The tremolo effect can be used with the flange at the same time or without the flange and on its own. I found this fantastic as you really get your money's worth with it. It is a very sturdy pedal on top of that. I have had no problems with it and I have had it with well over a year now. This boss pedal is to a high standard and creates no hiss. The Ultra flange option gives you a more intense flange sound which i found very useful. For a more subtle sound the standard one fitted my requirements perfectly. The only disadvantage with the pedal is that it can take a long time to find the right flange sound you want as you have to create it yourself. However for me I found that it added to the diversity of the pedal.http://fradiomas.com/images/boss-flanger-bf-2-manual.pdf I would highly recommend this pedal to someone who wants to make their guitar sound more interesting. I probably wouldn't recommend running it over with your car, but I also wouldn't bet against it functioning if you'd unfortunately done so. One of the most attractive features that always draws me back to boss is their size. Being a sound junkie I am always experimenting with various arrangements of pedals on my board, and by using boss pedals that are built extremely concise they permit musicians such as my self the ability to fit far more pedals on one board then if i were to use pedals of different makes. In closing Boss Pedals are great sounding, easy to use, superior construction, easy to modify and relatively inexpensive. I do own many other brands of pedals but when I am in the market for something new to produce some new desired tone required by a particular song or arrangement I always check Boss's lineup first for all the reasons listed previously to see if they have something to accommodate.I'm sure the newer version is no different outside of separate guitar and bass inputs. Maybe 1 and 11 respectively or right in between. That will get you close enough to tweak from there.Once you shut it off it still adds some high frequencies on your signal path. The best use for me would be with a looper true bypass where I can choose how I want my signal at the time. Straight clean, distorted, wha, or flanger. 4 stars only for not being true bypass. But yIt's got all the tone adjustments you need while making it easy to use. And as always, all of Boss's pedals are built like tanks. Mine has taken quite a beating yet still works and sounds like new. However, the Fromel Electronics Modification kit unleashes the robust, throbbing flange of the BF-2, while retaining the clarity and warmth of your original tone.www.docutek-inc.com/upload/files/consult-manual-of-internal-medicine-pdf.pdf In your pedal’s “born again” state, you can dial in everything from subtle filtered flavors to psychotic swirling madness! Your guitars natural tone will be preserved instead of being lost in a wash. Faster and Deeper The LFO is fine tuned for faster maximum speed and deeper maximum depth, all the slow speeds are left intact. Know your speed A special dual LED will glow Red in time with the rate knob when bypassed. When the effect is engaged, the LED turns Blue. Vintage Flanging You can tune the HF-2 to sound very similar to the vintage MXR flanger, parts and instructions are included for this option. PSA Power Supply Many HF-2’s only work with the old style Boss ACA power adapter. The Supreme mod kit converts the pedal to run off the new standard Boss PSA power adapter. Don't pay hundreds of dollars for a boutique flanger when you can transform your BF-2 for far less. Why you ask? We are no. It may not display this or other websites correctly. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. Sign Up Now! I just got a BF-2 and I'm not sure what it's for. It seems to do some tone shaping somewhat like the Resonance knob but not as dramatic. Rolling it to the left makes it more useful for the bass. Isn't that the rate knob's job? GlennThe rate knob changes how fast the delay time is varying. The manual knob changes the range of the variable delay time. How's that? Need more of a description?Try this: Rate at it's slowest Res at it's max Depth at it's max Then, with manual fully counter-clockwise, pick a note and pluck it over and over again, slowly. Listen to the sweep all the way up, all the way down, and all the way up again. Now, put the manual control fully clockwise and repeat the listening test. It's subtle, but it's definitely there. I can even hear it just from the self generated noise the thing makes with no input signal.https://klingende-zeder.de/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626ec1a5529fb---bosch-maxx-wfl-2060-user-manual.pdf Oh yeah, and to REALLY prove it, pop open the thing and tweak the internal RES pot up a bit, with the right twiddling you should be able to get it to self oscillate, and you'll find the manual control has a significant effect on the tone it produces. An example of BF-2 self oscillation with tweaking of the manual control affecting the pitch.Actually, I've gotta pull my finger and post the samples of the Ibanez DML-10 self osc. This caused a small delay between the two decks, creating the famous whooshing sound. The sensitivity of the Manual control is inversely proportional to Depth and the Manual control is disabled when Depth is at maximum. When Depth is at minimum the delay time is controlled entirely by Manual. When Depth is at maximum the delay time is controlled solely by the LFO. These set (not surprisingly) the minimum and maximum delay time when the Depth is at maximum and Manual is at minimum. These are updated when the type is changed. The Flanger block now allows minimum delay times as short as 340 microseconds. If one of the Thru-Zero modes is selected the dry path is delayed accordingly resulting in a net minimum delay time of zero. Higher values cause the delay time to dwell at shorter times and then increase rapidly towards the longer times.www.diversityholding.com/userfiles/files/consult-manual-internal-medicine.pdf Lower values cause the delay time to dwell at longer times. AUTO automatically adjusts the thru-zero so that the zero-point is mid-sweep regardless of the Manual value. MANUAL is intended to replicate manual tape flanging. To use MANUAL set the Depth to zero and vary the Manual control to simulate pressing on the tape flange. If Dry Delay is 50 the zero-point on the Manual control is 5.0. Lower values of Dry Delay will shift the zero-point down and vice-versa.Note that for some models the LFO waveform will be distorted due to the nonlinear filtering that occurs. It's understanding the parameters and how to adjust them. Obviously things are too confusing for some people and I will have to give some thought on how to make the effect easier to adjust or clarify the controls. If anything, the flanger block is superior to the delay block for flanging because you have more precise control over the time. The new algorithms now model the behavior of classic bucket-brigade device (BBD) units (except they are true stereo). The Depth parameter works somewhat differently now and sets the maximum delay time (up to 20 ms). When Auto Depth is not off the maximum delay is reduced as the rate is increased. There are now three Auto Depth values: Low, Medium and High. Turning Auto Depth to Off allows complete control over the delay time. The minimum time is set by the Delay parameter and the maximum time is set by the Depth. The parameter now sets the delay time of the dry signal as a percentage of the maximum delay time of the wet signal. For classic thru-zero flanging this parameter should be set to 50. For interesting new sounds experiment with lower or higher values. For guitar it often sounds best when placed before distortion. As a studio effect, put it after the Amp block. It defaults to mono to prevent phase problems when used before an Amp block. These set (not surprisingly) the minimum and maximum delay time when the Depth is at maximum and Manual is at minimum. These are updated when the type is changed. The minimum time is set by the Delay parameter and the maximum time is set by Depth.Time controls the minimum delay time of the wet signal. Depth controls the maximum time, up to 10 ms beyond the minimum time. The modulation is unipolar on top of the base time, up to 10 ms of modulation. There is nothing to say a chorus can't have feedback as well.To manually control the flanging set Depth to zero.If you deviate from 50 you'll reduce the depth of the notches caused by the comb filtering. This allows synchronizing the sweep to the engagement of the effect. For interesting new sounds, experiment with lower or higher values. Now you can craft any kind of sweep shape you want. Use MIN and MAX in the modifier to set the depth. You can also do this with the DELAY block MONO TAPE algorithm. Res - Resonance, adjusts the amount of affected signal fed back into itself. CCW for less feedback, CW for more. Unfortunately, you can't get the full range of the knobs at once, so you have to set the range you find most useful. I didn’t realize there were trim pots, so you’ve got me wanting to tinker. If you have a looper, a good way to set the trims is to tweak while the pedal is in use. Set the face dial of the trim you want to adjust to min or max before twisting in the backdoor. Words I would use to describe the tone: rich, lush, thick, saturated, dark. However, where this pedal really shines is in self-oscillate. That's when it really sang in a ghastly, haunting wail like a mad banshee. Chords, slapping, tapping, etc. Porridge is too hot. The main difference from the regular is it reportedly has a highpass filter - or something to that nature - on the affected signal to leave fundamental frequencies un-flanged. Words to describe: mysterious, misty, light, subtle. It sounded behind my tone like a spectre in the back of my mind. It became more pronounced with some distortion in front since the effect seemed to only flange the upper range of the frequency spectrum; it left the meat of the drive pretty much untouched with the harmonics whirling in delicate flanged heaven. Turning the trim to max was just as expected: chorus-like in the upper range only more prominent with dirt. Same range as the BF-2, but the self-oscillation was not as thick. The light character of the flanger self-oscillating haunted the amp like a night wind through a drafty window. I went back to put the OD after the BF-2 (reset for self-oscillate) to be greeted by the MGM Lion snarling at me. Porridge is too cold. All rights reserved Back to top.
