New drivers were stupid money. ATC PA75-314BLCR were not only better, but not much more money and a recone kit then was about 30 quid to us. ATC are about 5 miles from here. Bose UK had their sales idiots and some US guys visiting some installations of their sound systems. They commented on how awesome the low end was as I was in there fixing and running it. Yes they got told to jog on and then some after their stupid show off bullshit. The following year some scaled down Bose Cannons were on the Lightfactor stand at Plasa wired up working as a piss take. It caused a real uproar again:). I now have a second pair and was thinking about the positioning, If you you stand them next to each other they tend to cancel out due to the porting, we used to put one upside down and the result was great but they looked stupid. Bose in general is a very shady company that preys upon the ignorance of the general population. I've used this subwoofer numerous times in an acoustically treated warehouse, for all different types of music from alternative rock, to classical orchestra and it is definitely sub par. This sub also has very low sensitivity, 90db when you want high sensitivity typically 99db. Even when properly powered its inefficient. The sonic performance is floppy, weak and dispersion of low frequencies is very poor. Don't become another victim of the Bose hoax, stay away from this sub. It's expensive, but it was well worth the money. I'm only 15 years old and because of this sub, I got alot of gigs through my school because I was the first DJ there to use any sub, the kids liked it because it will rattle the floor, and I like it because it's easy to move. The only drawback is that it's expensive, and it's a power hungry beast. I purchased a pair of Bose 302-II sub woofers. Both units had original drivers replaced with cheap car subs. Below is all I could find out on what was originally in them. I ordered a pair of the Eminence Delta 12-LFA. They played OK, but I had an open port on one side of the sub box where the handle inserts. The system was thumping, then when I placed the hand in the hole to screw it on, the music was still coming out, but there was no longer any heavy thumping. Well I contacted them this morning on the number suggested on that post, and after two different techs all they could advise was to make sure the replacements were 8 Ohms and could handle at least 320 watts, that was it. I spoke to a local repair shop, and the gentleman told me that I probably needed something with a foam edge, instead of paper. What do you think of them?I doubt Bose will release that information. The other option is to reverse-engineer the cab with a box program and model it with driver after driver until you find something that works well. It's an involved process, but the only one that will work. As noted already Bose products are pretty much universally reviled, and not without good reason. IMO these boxes probably aren't worth reloading, a 55 Hz lower limit doesn't even cut it for music sources, let along home theater should you have that use in mind.Consider the low end response of 55hz. For a decent woofer for PA use, it should be getting into the low 40's for any decent warmth in the low end. Simply tossing a woofer into the cabinet may result in worse sound than the original drivers.Are the subs self powered or do you use your own amp. I do have to say they don't sound terrible, but they are also 30 years old, before they came up with the cubes. The CUBES are the number one issue with Bose, not all of their stuff. Someone (not sure who, cannot recall at this point) was arguing that Bose still had some admirable stuff. They brought up Bose headsets for pilots and military use and it was said that was quality gear. Now we hear it from the mouth of the horse, or pilot, Bose sucks in all aspects in this day and age. Someone with efficient well rounded speakers and no lust for higher spls would not notice a difference between the receiver or the amp, given they don't have bias. Do they even go below 40hz? Do they even go below 40hz? The original bass module now replaced by the 502b which weighs half as much. These are super heavy great for installs less so for touring unless you have cases with wheels. Great sound super punchy, not super bass response below around 30 hz.
