I call it reading the menu right to left.read down the list of whats available and find the price you can afford then scan left to see what you are going to be eating for dinner. For reference I have Klipsch main speakers and two Polk Audio subwoofers driven by a Yamaha 7.2 surround sound amplifier and get this.main rear speakers are a pair of 25 year old Cerwin Vega AT-12s I bought new in 1990. With digital music they do not do as well so they got moved to the rear in favor of the Klipsch front speakers. I decided to give these a try because I was able to find a pair through Amazon used and the price was right. They are used primarily as the deep rear although to test them i hooked them up as front main speakers. The direct reflecting technology does make a difference if the room you have them in supports it. Compared to the Klipsch these don't hold a candle but that is to be expected of smaller bookshelf speakers. What somewhat surprised me is that they also got smoked by a set of old Cerwin Vega speakers and not just in bass but in clarity and range. The older style binding posts DO NOT accept banana plugs so I soldered speaker wire to make the connections. I gave the vendor a 2 star rating and I believe that was more than fair considering they completely misrepresented the product. Email correspondance fell into a black hole.they never even replied. Bottom line? If you can get these speakers in good shape meaning they are cosmetically in good shape and don't have any major issues for around 100 dollars then go for it. The 201s are outstanding and I would not buy any other brand of speaker. When someone mentios the word speaker Bose comes to mind. They are an excellent bookshelf speaker. The range is dynamic and faithfully reproduce the whole sound spectrum of whatever you might listen too. I listen to most types of music and I can say that these speakers are a pleasure to hear. I plan to buy a new pair of 301s in the future. Highly recommended. It's the best sounding speaker for the money.
