Looked in the owners manual, nothing about changing a bulb. CALLED BOSCH. Got put on hold for 5 mins, then service agent apologized for having no information in their systems on how to change the bulb. Was told that I'd need to pay a factory technician to come out to disassemble the unit in order to replace the bulb. I have had at least two service calls through the years to replace the light bulb. I was also told it is not serviceable by the end-user. I have also had the the pull down door tension break at least 3 times but that is another topic for another day! Marketers want to convince people that their stuff is dated so they will buy new stuff - especially those well built oak cabinets that seem to last for ages. If you do not care for them or they are worn out, then you can consider options. Painting will get you through 5 to 10 years while you save for new cabinets. Painted over previously finished cabinets is not as durable as a factory painted cabinets. What look pretty in a picture may not be so great up close. If you are not a patient and experienced DIY person, doing it yourself risks ruining them. Professional cabinet painters are expensive. The best painted over finished cabinets I have seen still require touch-ups on most frequently used cabinets in 3 years. Some are just fine with that - they get the paint out, do the touch ups and are happy with their painted kitchen. I see how it works with the fireplace brick for a homey feel for you, but for selling, neutral wall colors hide obvious angles that close spaces in. It will be a deeper hue, richer looking and make the prospective buyer think you really cared for the home they are buying. Get it clean, get it sold, don't spend money they may well just pitch out. Put your money in your pocket for where you are moving too. Besides that, for every update that gets a poor quality craftsman, there is an Inspector, who will point it out, and cost you again either in a lost sale, or a discounted price to close the deal. Even looking thru the sub-assembly diagrams for the microwave on that searsdirect link (thanks), I don't see a light bulb mentioned at all in the microwave. I would guess it is accessible from the front. If it is - open the door - at the top of the opening there may be a 'trim' or 'vent' strip held in with a couple of screws. Remove it - and you will probably find a little door over the bulb. I've had good luck with the Repair Parts Clinic.com. The light is in the top of the unit, I think toward the rear right-of-center as looking in from the front. Near as I can guess, the light is coming from behind (above) some perforations (vent holes?) in the (metal) ceiling. So much for german engineering. This is probably by design to generate revenue. I think the light is behind a small mesh area in the front right. This probably means that either you have to take the oven out and there is a rear access door, or you slide the oven partially out and reach the bulb from above. Pull the whole of the main casing backwards to remove and set aside. A red and brown at the front connection and a yellow wire to the rear connection. I used a pair of wire cutters to brake the bulb base plate to release the old lamp. The spacing comes out perfect and you save yourself some money on the 4th hinge kit. -Aaron.
