Buyer 4.0 out of 5 stars This is not difficult at all. The reason they don’t align is that the weld temperature deforms the metal. Good news is that it’s soft enough to drill easily. As for the operation, after assembly, the tendency is to wind it into the ground too far at first. I have heavy clay and I had to use a different technique. I’m into my 60’s yet by slowly taking small bites into the clay, I had a perfectly round 70cm deep hole in the clay. Each hole took about 10 minutes. A younger guy could easily half that time. The cost of this tool was more than saved on the bags of concrete I didn’t need to use. This is a fantastic piece of kit. A word of advice - I reiterate another reviewers comment on how to use this tool - do not try to twist this fully into the ground and then try to pull it back up. Simply turn it a couple of times, give it a wriggle and pull it out. Clean out the tine and repeat until the depth you require is reached. The only negative comment I have is that the handle is floppy on the shaft. However, it doesn't appear to effect the function. As a number of reviewers have commented, the problem with this item is the handle, it fits over the main hollow shaft but the overlap is too short and loose, the result is a wobbly handle. The next problem is the handle and shaft are held together with a thin short screw, imo the screw is too thin and will snap and the holes do not line up properly so it takes effort and patience to assemble.http://www.rosenergoholding.ru/userfiles/bosch-logixx-dishwasher-service-manual.xml What a shame, 5mm more steel in the handle and 30 secs more attention to detail and there would be no problem, this is a classic example of shoddy manufacturing. This tool should be used by lifting it up every half turn and in this way it will create a core which will slowly travel upwards as the tool burrows deeper into the soil. At least one reviewer has had a problem but most have not and given the price it is good value even if not a longterm heirloom in the family garden shed.As long as you don't try and pull out the whole core at once (it's too heavy with wet soil) it's perfect. I voted 5 holes in the time it took me to dig 1 with a shovel. I would definitely recommend ??The photograph I've added shows 30cmx30cmx80cm deep pullup post hole I created with this Auger. Once you remove the turf simply corkscrew in 1 quarter of the 1 foot square hole down say 4-6 inches. Then wiggle it about a bit a then pul outl. If you screw down any further, unless you're Eddie George, it will do your back in pulling it out. Once out tap out the earth and repeat for the other 3 quarters of the hole. Any remaining earth can be easily scooped out. If the earth is hard, due to a dry spell or 'clayee', simply fill the new hole with a few inches of water and a take a 10 min break while the water seeps in and softens the earth. It's then like slicing through butter. Keep repeating till you get to the required depth, in my case 80cm, but I reckon it will go down to 100cm. Not sure why people on here were complaining about the build quality, mine held up really well. The wing nut screws holding the handle to the stem could have been replaced for actual nuts to avoid catching yourself on them every now and again, but that's being picky. This was a cheaper option than using a fence post double faced spade and much quicker to use. Taking out the time I spent waiting for the water to soften the ground, I reckon I dug the 30x30x80 hole in 20-30 mins or less.http://www.drupalitalia.org/node/72159Tried using it without having the handles locked in place since I was desperate to dig a post hole- but this tool just made the job more of a chore than lightened to burden. Given time I can probably adjust it by making one of the existing holes just slightly wider to accept the pin.but that should have been sorted by the maker not me!Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Aaandyyy 5.0 out of 5 stars The soil was extremely heavy clay from only a few inches down and so solid I reckon it could have been used for bricks. After several attempts I found by just drilling down six inches or so at a time this clay could then be lifted out before progressively going deeper. I went down 24 inches so I could have 6 inches of postcrete in the bottom which was allowed to dry then the concrete post on top of that surrounded with more postcrete. This auger does not make it an easy job but in comparison to digging it with one of those round spades that break it is so much better and for this price it really is a no brainer. I can't comment on how it would work in rocky or chalky soils having not used it for this.It seems very robust too. I think getting out stubborn roots will now become easy.Grass is now growing.Take it slowly and remove the dislodged earth and stones as you proceed and it will do the job. If like me you have bin type compost bins, and they are all stuffed to capacity so no space to turn the compost then try one of these augers. It glides into partially decomposed material with ease and turns the compost effortlessly, the level of the composting material falls and you bring a rich seam of bacteria laden material to the top.Its as broad as its long using a shovel. Dont find it any quicker.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again La qualite est top.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again As I had to do 7 post holes, I carried on. It was pretty useless to get the soil out, but it still helped to tidy up the hole. It should have lasted longer I think. Too feeble for what it is supposed to do. The Draper one might be stronger.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again The handle therefore is very loose and moves about as you use the tool, and you have to frequently tighten the wing nuts up - which is a bit annoying. The tool itself is very sturdy, quite a weight in it. As others before have said there is a technique to using this, which you soon pick up on as you struggle to withdraw it from the ground. A wee bit at a time is what's required. Anyway the tool is good to an extant. Cuts really nice post holes - however as soon as you hit any kind of stone you come to a grinding halt. Spent ages with a hammer and chisel breaking and removing stones to allow me to progress with the tool. Which made me wonder if I should just have gone with a spade instead. Anyway got there in the end, but took much longer than expected due to stones. The areas without stones were much quicker, and tool did a great job there. So good tool, but beware of stones.!Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Once i had the complete item I had to modify the holes as per the other reviews to put it together, but once that was all done the product works reaaly well. The ground i was digging was thankfully rock free, so that would amke it easier for me - i encountered a few roots, but mostly the auger would cut through them with a bit of effort.I got to the point where I could dig a 2 foot deep hole in around 20 minutes - much easier and quicker than using a spade!Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Easy to use and durable would definitely buy again. For the money the value is fantastic definitely worth it !!Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again The handle fits well, slightly wobbly but not enough to trouble you. The bolt actually fits, contrary to some of the other reviews. (Maybe they fixed this issue). I managed to cut through some serious clay, so much so I couldn't pull the thing out. No problem, just rewind and do a little at a time. All in all this auger saved me so much time. Anyway, I'm done with it now.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Was concerned it wouldn’t be up to the job when ordering due to the price. Was very surprised how easy it is to use. Found it was able to cut through smaller sized roots. Found the best results by giving it 2-3 full turns.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Was easy to assemble and use. Would highly recommend.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Don't expect miracles - if your soil is stony then expect to use a digging bar as wellSorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. Even professionals find uses for the manual variety of these tools when they aren’t using the powered kinds. Sometimes, the manual approach is simply the right technique for the job. You probably remember using your grandfather’s old hole digger. While some modern diggers may remind you of that old style, some of the newer models have significant improvements. It’s important to know what you need and what is available on the market. Keep reading for a few recommendations. Each one has its particular strengths and weaknesses. The clam shell variety is quite simple. This tool has two poles, each with a scooping blade on the end, that are attached in such a way as to pivot so that a person can hold each pole in one hand and open and close the scooping blades at the end. This is, perhaps, the simplest design, but it does have a few flaws. Of course, the opening and closing motions take a toll on your body as you use these, and they get more difficult to use as they get deeper into the holes that you are making. The dirt around the hole restricts the motion of the tool, which can be a pain. They also work with a winding motion that can be less stressful to sustain. The primary drawback of these devices is the fact that they can only be used for a single-sized hole, based on their diameter. On the other hand, they essentially create a perfectly-sized hole every time. Remember how you would invariably end up knocking your knuckles together when opening the “clamshell” style tools of the past. Well, that pain in the knuckle is no more with this product. The handles are spaced and arranged in such a way that your hands don’t come together when you open and close it. This feature alone is such an advantage over less models. While wooden and fiberglass diggers can be fine for some jobs, steel is what you really want for the toughest work. Steel blades and shafts on this model make it incredibly durable. Roots that might have given you trouble with other diggers won’t get in the way of this one. Some users say that this is the best product of its kind available today. There are also a few comments that point to the durability of this tool. It certainly sounds like you can’t go wrong with this one! You see, an auger uses a drilling motion that can have benefits compared to a standard digger. Consider the Seymour Mfg. AU-S6 Post Hole Auger. This product does not use the standard two poles that bring together metal plates. Instead, it uses a spinning, drilling-style action. This design means that it is different from a digger in a few ways. If you have particularly tough soil, like clay, an auger might make digging a fence hole a bit of an easier job. On the other hand, an auger is best to make holes at a fixed diameter, as opposed to a digger that gives you a bit more “wiggle room.” This can be a pro or a con depending on the job that you’re doing. Ultimately, it may come down to personal comfort and preference. Love it completes my collection now I can auger any size holeAnd thicker metal than I expected so it will last a long time. Was a lil skeptical about it seeing its prettty much a glorified weedwhacker motor with a gear box and a auger, but it worked great. Was impressed by its ability to bore holes even though its all rocky where I live. Had to stop to pick out the big rocks, but most it would just throw em out with the dirt. Finally less effort. It's large enough to make the holes to fit my tomato plant. Glad I got this drill bits to start the season.Easy to start and operate. Well made machine. It made the job of digging 15 post holes much easier and faster. It's heavy though, so be prepared to work your upper arms and shoulders.Needed to enlarge the hole using the auger and a digging bar for a 4” post. Auger helped remove the soil from the hole and reduced time and work required. So if you want a deeper hole it needs to be bigger in radius. I have been able to dig down 4 feet no problem, just make sure you are smarted than the hole and you will have no problems. It was firmly sitting in my drill, never fell out or broke, and did a very good job in making holes for the fence stakes. The GIANTZ Post Hole Digger is geared up to do simple post. Please see below for postcodes excluded..
