One For All invented the universal remote control decades ago for two purposes: replacing broken or lost remotes and to combine all remotes of a household into just one. The URC 1240 does both. If you want to control more than 4 devices, we advise a URC 1280 or our Smart Control (URC 7980). You can try these using a simple 3 step process that takes only a few seconds. You will usually find the right code in the first couple of tries. And from then on, your universal remote will function just like your originals, with the benefit of using just 1 remote. Neil Mohan 5.0 out of 5 stars I found it useful to get my settop box and TV switched on and off with single button, Segment the remote to 3 sections to control set top box, tv and amplifier. Really recommend this to get rid of a dozen remotes and remove the clutter from around the TV. Ge this one and store all your remotes back in the carton.http://www.chourouk-voyages.com/images/4-in-1-manual-treadmill-price-in-india.pdf Do not settle for lower models from same manuf as it lacks the convenience of programming new devices with ease. Highly recommended!!!I have programmed all my entertainment devices including TV, STB, Home Theatre, even my AC. I just love to have power to control all with this one mighty remote. You need to keep releasing and pressing to continuously increase our decrease volume. This is very frustrating. Other than that no problems yet. Good manual programming capability.Even if it works, only a few key will get configured this way. We have to manually learn all the other keys, which is a tedious task. The One for All customer support is the worst. The seller and amazon did a great job in supporting me.Quick search online had them and they worked well. No issues setting up and using Sony BD or Surround system. Its a solid remote and is very attractive. Soft touch backing with a black piano finish on the front. Chrome wraps around the edges.Very good for the price. Pros - Exactly as described, Easy to setup. One touch control to all my devices. Learning function is excellent. Limitless possibilities. Cons - The build quality is not great. Ergonomics is not the best.Simple set up is exactly that, and with a recent-ish device from a common name brand it is an absolute doddle, ideal for technophobes, the only hard bit is finding the English part of the quick set up guide. More codes can easily be found on line if needed: I didn't need, but tried the website code search facility out anyway, just out of curiosity. I do however have the original remotes, so I was able to spend a couple of hours 'teaching' the 'one for all' what I needed it to do. In the past I've found this frustrating and awkward with multiple tries required to get one button to work. However, the 'one for all ' worked beautifully, the double blue flash to confirm lesson learnt and nice positive buttons made it an easy task (except for my amp on the 'game' device button, of which more later!) In the past I found some similar remotes had a severely limited memory space for learned functions, but somewhere I read this will take around 100, so no problem with having to choose what to leave out. In fact I've been able to add surround processor volume control to the DVD function (and hi fi amplifier volume to the CD function too) to remove the need to switch devices. A few very minor niggles: my relatively new Panasonic blu ray picked up the auto codes perfectly, except tray open (there is no tray open button on the 'one for all' as far as I can see.I understand that with such a vast range of possible devices not every function can be included, but removable media players are so common you'd think they would be catered for. The other niggle is to do with the instructions: I wanted to have a macro which wakes and sets the system components ready for watching a film, quite a complex sequence with my kit. I was struggling to program a macro from the paper instructions, so went on line to see if I could get more help: there is a PDF guide there which covers a few more unusual options, and has clear macro instructions which suggest I had misunderstood the paper ones. Not very helpful to leave 5 PDF pages as an on line only feature without making it clear in the included paperwork. I have successfully programmed a macro sequence now, which wakes the blu ray, opens its disc drawer, sets the surround to the correct input and 6ch, a great reduction in the amount of faffing around required. That PDF also tells you how to assign a different device type to a key, so you get the specific functions needed if (using their e.g.) you need to control two TVs. Seeing this I realised why it had been frustrating trying to get the hi-fi amp controls learned by the buttons I wanted to use on the 'game' device: once I used the instructions to assign 'amp' type to the 'game' device button it worked fine. I guess that the device buttons are tailored to device type, and perhaps not all control buttons are available in every device. After a few days use I can say that the remotes buttons are well set out and positive to use, and the silver edge round the remote(which I originally thought looked a bit tacky)is both a useful distinguishing mark to remind me I'm not using the old familiar remotes and a good way of spotting it in low light. The remote is quite slim and very smooth feeling, with a slightly rubbery texture on the back. It is nice to handle, but with the obvious visual feature (the control ring) so very near the centre I've grabbed it a few times and wondered what has gone wrong, then spotted I'm pointing the wrong end at the TV.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Once I disposed of the manuals in other languages the instructions I needed are in three separate leaflets or manuals. I must not lose these because I could not find equivalent PDFs online. So it took about two hours for me to get everything set up and working the way I needed it. And I'm a programmer by trade. This remote can support multiple devices without the need to switch modes. For instance, you can set your amp and TV to be addresses simultaneously, which is fine as long as there are no buttons that are needed for both devices. You can also assign the volume and mute buttons to a single device regardless of which main mode (tv, dvd, sat, etc) is chosen. That is great. As with all of these multi remotes, the more obscure buttons on the remote may need to be taught using the learning facility. It would have been nice if there were a few more extra buttons on the remote, as some devices have quite a lot of functions. The remote feels nice and good quality and does everything I need it to do. It was a bit of a faff to set up but that is done and all programmable remotes have the same issues. At ?20 this was a bargain as this sort of remote was much pricier than this until recently.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again However looking at the URC 7960 it is a very capable remote and I love the one button multi device ability. The option to re-purpose device keys so you can make it control exactly what you want is excellent and the easy way you can get it to learn the odd button that's not automatically set-up is very good too. My criticisms are the button feedback is poor, especially around the circular rocker also only a very limited number of keys light up (blue) when keys are pressed which isn't good when viewing in the dark. However since buying this I have been given a Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I wanted this for a set-up I have in a boat. It would not recognised TVTronics HDD recorder or Edson sound system. There were no codes for either. The advantage of course is that I know all the codes. But it certainly will not control 'everything' as its makers suggest, so it might be wise if considering a purchase to look through the codes on the Web first to make sure. Tom CrossleySorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again The instructions are clear and I was able to do this quite easily. The remote is a bit bulky and the most used buttons are a long way away from each other. The remote looks like it should be the other way around, so it took me a while to get used to pointing the right end at the telly. This is still a problem for other people that visit and use the remote. Some of the functions of my DVR cannot be used as this remote did not have enough buttons to programme for it. Perhaps some spare buttons would have been useful for this purpose. I have given it 4 stars because I can use this remote to control my TV, DVR, and Apple TV so far- so it does save me getting up. However I still have to have the other remotes out as it is a bit complicated to use and my visitors don't get enough practice to get used to it.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It requires four AAA batteries. I've had some quite ratty rechargeables in it for the past few months without any problem, which is a good job as there is no indication which part is the battery cover on the underside of the device. In the package was a very comprehensive list of programming codes for a wide range of devices, and it was straightforward to identify and program both my devices. I would have been happy to have had this material online rather than in paper form. So, how many of the 60 or so buttons do I use. I suspect this would be similar to most households.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It's also nicely made, feels solid and looks good. It's actually more attractive than any of the remotes I replaced with it which I am surprised by. I also tested and found it to work with a Panasonic TV, Samsung DVD and Humax PVR. In each case I had to manually copy at least one button from the original remote to get all the functionality I needed, but this was OK. It did not work with my other Sony stereo or no-name DVD player, which was a mild disappointment hence only 4 stars. So I think it probably works with 99 of new equipment and 80-90 of devices 10 or more years old. Set up is dead easy if you happen to have a device which is fully pre-programmed and acceptable in cases where you have to learn a few buttons. Daily use is easy. In particular it is much easier to use than a Sky remote (and cheaper!). It is mildly annoying to have to cycle through the different devices instead of having a dedicated button for each (no idea why they didn't do this?) and there are only just enough buttons in some cases. Signal strength seems to be good and it has run on its original batteries with daily use for 8 months so far.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again First of all it has a great quality feel to it with responsive buttons, nice metal trim and soft touch plastic back. Premium feel which you would hope for when it is replacing all your other remotes. I was dubious as to whether it would work with all the devices I need it to and managed to get it working perfectly in about an hour of tinkering. I needed it to turn on a Benq projector, a sony receiver, Virgin Tivo box and an intel NUC running openelec. The codes listed managed to get the majority of them working straight away, but the best thing is the 'magic' feature where you can individually assign buttons from your previous remote to customise things how you want. It is brilliant. There are also macro keys where you can program everything to turn on and off with a single button press. The best remote I have ever owned and has replaced all my previous 4 remotes completely.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Although it works well for the TV, the satellite box and audio soundbar, it failed to operate the projector or any functions of my PS3. On the plus side, it's affordable and definitely a looker. The chrome trim really sets it off, and it lights up in all the places that matter when you need them to. It's quite sturdy and should stand up to a reasonable amount of abuse. It was relatively easy to program, although not quick. It seemed quite fiddly at first but I soon learned the process of how to do it, then it was just a case or repetition. What was disappointing, and slightly annoying, was trying to teach it the infrared signals from my projector remote. It actually went through all the motions of learning them and even acknowledged to me that it had learned each infrared signal, but when it came to actually using this controller on the device, it just didn't work at all. In conclusion, I suspect this is an older design that is overdue an upgrade to accommodate the newer technologies currently on the market. It gets the job done if you have basic requirements, TV satellite, DVD etc but don't expect it to run anything beyond that.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again But is it as good or as convenient as one that you would pay greater than ?100? I vote yes. The macro feature has allowed me to program several commands for a piece of equipment. The instructions do not make this capability clear; they just mention turning a device on. The macro is capable of far more than that. For instance, I have a surround amp that must receive a specific command when using the TV and then when watching a movie via a DVD so the correct audio mode is selected. I can press one button for 'Watch TV' and one for 'Watch a Movie' and the commands are issued to the amp for the proper audio mode and the TV for TV input vs.For the cons, the device would not turn on the Panasonic tv. So for either of the above, you simply had to push the power button immediately after selecting the 'Watch TV' or 'Watch a Movie'. No big deal. Also, I had great difficulty getting the remote to control the Cambridge Audio blue ray player. The on button ended up being in a strange location and I had to use the 'Learn' feature for all other dvd functions. But all is working very well now. As I looked through the internet, I see the the high priced spreads also struggle with Cambridge Audio.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again That being the case, I decided not to waste a lot of money on a more expensive unit (especially as some of them had non-replaceable rechargable batteries fitted) and persevere with learning to programme this six-in-one universal remote. Although it did take a couple of days to get it to do everything that I wanted it to, the point is that THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY with this unit, by virtue of its 'learning' capabilities. As long as you have the original remote controls and the buttons all work on them, you can always manually copy functions to the new remote. I had to do this with a couple of devices that didn't have any codes available (or the supplied codes didn't work) and now I have all the control I need over six different devices. The quality (feel) of the unit is a lot better than I had expected, for the money, too. All in all, a very good buy, despite the initial confusion and frustrations with trying to set it all up using 'codes'. Recommended!Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again It is tactile, well built and has lots of functions. However, it is a bit fiddly to set up. As other reviewers have said, even the default profiles are not completely good for purpose. I found that the odd key I relied on was missing from the default profiles and I had had to remap the 'mce' and 'pop-up' keys in both the TV and STB profiles. This is OK, but involves a bit of fiddling around, and remembering to save what you've done by pressing and holding 'magic' for three seconds at the end of programming. Another observation is that any keys that you re-map will not auto-repeat. This is quite frustrating as I have remapped the arrow keys on one device and now the cursor moves pixel at a time. Still a good unit and excellent value for less than ?20.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Also, because my old remote was American it didn't have the red, green, yellow and blue buttons that UK remotes have. The URC7960 seemed to fit the bill perfectly and I haven't been disappointed at all, it is excellent multi-remote. The learning took all of 5 mins and then the remote just worked. The macro mode is great and easy to set up. My only slight niggle is that in macro mode the remote can't turn on my TV. But this is more a problem with the TV than the UR7960 as you have to press and hold the on button on the TV remote for a couple of seconds to get it to turn on. And unfortunately I can't seem replicate this on the UR7960. With my old Home Theater Master remote you could simulate holding down the button by recording lots of continuous TV on presses in the macro but this doesn't work for the UR7960. But the one button I programmed to turn all 3 devices on works to turn off all 3 though so that is good. My TV is 10 years old though so I think it is time to buy a new one and this problem will go away. Overall I am very happy and can highly recommend this if you want a cheap and simple multi-remote.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again I had to go online to get the code for the Toppy, but once looked up and typed in the remote was happy to control the box. I also programmed it for my Phillips TV and Toshiba DVD player. Each device requires a single code to set it up and then all or most of the buttons should work. Overall - quite pleased. Does the trick, buttons are reasonable to press, range and angle for it to work are quite reasonable. And the price was right.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again The price and negative comments about battery life put me off. Got this all in one remote at a good price from Amazon seller, mymemory. Bought it to control my youview Humax box as a lot of buttons were failing to work on original remote. The vast majority of the buttons worked with the first Humax code I tried. The only ones I had to copy from the original remote were the ad skip buttons and the dedicated delete button. My one criticism of this remote is there is no tele text button, otherwise tho it's spot on, good build quality though I could do without the raised edge around the directional control circle as your thumb has to be quite precise to use it otherwise I find myself pressing th unmoving edgeSorry, we failed to record your vote. Amazon Customer 1.0 out of 5 stars Not recommended. I haven't used a universal remote for many years but I had used quite a few of the One For All brand in the past. Part of the reason I gave it one star is because it was supposed to be a universal remote and it was supposed to be easily programmable online. I guess that online programming process is not terrible, although the online interface is sometimes not very intuitive and you have to repeat the whole setup every time you change something. I question whether non-tech savy people could flash the file easily. No way could my Mom who is in her 80's figure something like this out even though she is pretty computer savvy. There doesn't appear to be a way to manually punch in 3-4 digit codes like you used to be able to do with universal remotes. The only thing it seemed to work fine with is my few year old Samsung Plasma, even though that TV is not why I bought this. One device out of the four I tried is not very universal is it. I bought another universal remote and it works fine so I think either their codes are screwed up, or this was defective right from the start. The rest of reason for the one star. After trying to reprogram a couple times to get it to work with my various devices, the stupid latch on the battery compartment lid broke. The USB connection is inside the battery compartment. It is now worthless unless I tape it shut or use a rubber band or something to hold the door shut. It couldn't have been opened more than 3-4 times total to access the USB and it already broke. Pretty short life for such an expensive remote. I waited too long to return (entirely my fault) but a couple months of sitting in a box, and fiddling with it a few times at a desk and it is basically junk. This remote fulfills all those criteria. I was able to program the remote for my Toshiba TV without any issues. There were a few keys that I wanted to overwrite with custom commands (wanted to overwrite TV mode volume up, down and mute with commands from my amplifier's remote) and this was easy and worked first time. I initially had some trouble learning commands from my Cable company DVR remote but I found out by posting on a forum that this was not a problem with this remote, but it was that the DVR remote had switched from InfraRed to RF without me noticing. Once I was able to learn the IR commands everything was fine. This one is by far the most comfortable to hold and feels the most well built. The backlit button pad is good, it's just a soft orange glow behind the buttons and works well in the dark without being too bright. This is a JP1 remote so there is a lot of support for it out there on forums and by enthusiasts. Also you can plug it into your PC and copy the settings.bin file off, as a backup. So you can buy another of this model of remote, and transfer the settings.bin file, and all of your custom remote commands will just start working on the second remote. Cons? Not all buttons are backlit, the OK, direction ring buttons, and the pause button, are not backlit, but since all the others are, you know where everything is.
