If the transmitter has not been used for some time, cycle the battery by charging and discharging it two or three times. Over current protection The transmitter charging circuit is equipped with an over current protection circuits (1.5A). Data Backup The data (transmitter and Data Pac) of each function of the 3VCS transmitter is stored in a memory element that does not require backup battery. Therefore, the transmitter can be used without paying attention to the life of the backup battery. Data interchangeability with other models Data is not interchangeable with 3PK, 3VC, and other transmitters other than the 3VCS. User name display When the (END) button is held down for 1 second or longer at the initial screen, the Futaba logo and user name are displayed for about 2 seconds. (END) button. The total time does not change even when the model changes.Installation When An FET Amp Is Used (MC800CFET Amp) Installation For Gas Powered Models. Check if the modu- lation mode is set to match the receiver used.The function menu can be selected from among the following 3 levels to match the level of use. The function set-up screen can be directly and quickly called with the special buttons for each function of the six functions, they can be freely selected as the Direct Selec- tion Button function. Reducing this time lag at the transmitter side provides the same sharp response as electric motor cars. Carburetor A slight clearance is required at the linkage, but the throttle acceleration function acts to reduce the time. This mixing uses the 2nd channel to control the rear brakes and the 3rd channel to control the front brakes. It is possible to adjust the Brake Return Amount (ABP), Delay Amount (DLY) and Cycle period (CYC) exclusively for the front brake (the 3rd CH). UP TIMER UP TIMER function - The UP TIMER can be used to count the time between start and stop, etc. - The timer repeatedly starts and stops each time the switch is operated and accumulates the time between each start and stop. Switch operation after the set time by alarm has elapsed automatically stops the timer. Prealarm can also be set.Since only the buzzer can be restarted when the switch is pressed during timer operation, this func- tion can be used as the training run, etc.The programmable mixing 1 and programmable mixing 2 set-up screens are independent. Additional Functions -When the steering or throttle channel is the master channel (channel that applies mixing), trim data can be added. Rudder operation by steering wheel and tilt mixing by 3rd channel knob are possible. Subtrim shifts the entire servo travel range in the set direc- tion.However, when the position set by trim or subtrim shifts from the center, the center becomes the opposite side.The CAMPac-16K (Option) can store model data for ten more models. The model numbers are 01 to 10 at the transmitter and 11 to 20 at the CAMPac-16K. I would only use HRS for digital and go PCM for analog. They are essentially the same both have a fail safe it's just one is high response and the other is PCM 1024.Presumably if you use analogue and blow it up, you're on your own. 3VCS comes with R203HF HRS receiver, although you can use other receivers by changing mode. Normal version comes with R113iP Non HRS receiver. HRS system seems to suppress interference better as well. Hope this helps. I had no idea that transmitter technology for surface vehicles had advanced this far. Consider me the Rip Van Winkle of surface technology, waking up excited to tell you about it!That said, while I may not be able to jockey a horse to victory, I can still pick a winner. For professional surface control this is the system to consider when you want to use the very best stick controller. The transmitter comes without batteries so I installed 8 AA Alkaline batteries. An optional rechargeable Nicad pack is available for purchase (Futaba NT8F700B), but they recommend against using individual rechargeable AA batteries. The system as I received it came with a 10 model memory (I am happy with the increase of the base model memory to 10) and an optional 10 memory insert can be purchased (since those plug in, the memory available is only a question of money and exchanging the optional memory). The pictures below show where the exchangeable data pac plug is located. The change to the 2.4GHz transmission system was appropriate and necessary to make this a top of the line system.Furthermore, it scans incoming data and applies sophisticated error correction techniques to give you a rock solid connection with your model. The systems have dual antenna diversity: the R603FS receiver appears to only have one antenna but there is a second internal antenna (I suspect this is due to the fact that ground vehicles stay much closer to the operator than do aircraft). They also state that the transmitters leave the factory with a unique and permanent ID code that once linked to a receiver, ensures that the receiver will recognize and respond ONLY to that transmitter (this will be tested in Part II of this review). They also claim their system transmits over twice as many bits of information per packet than the leading competitor with a mind-numbing 32,768 steps of servo resolution. The system also uses a custom-developed IC chip allowing the Futaba FASST system to get more solid control, faster response and smoother servo travel. To make that link between transmitter and receiver, the two must be within one meter of one another.With the new 2.4 GHz systems there are no such limits on controlling your plane, car, truck or boat. This transmitter system is designed for surface vehicles, so don't try and use it to fly.I have transmitters that broadcast frequencies via modulation: AM, PPM (also known as FM) and PCM. With the new 3 VCS the broadcast is in the 2.4 GHz range and the modulation modes used are PPM (good old FM) or Futaba's proprietary system of HRS or High Response System. (The transmitter also shows PCM in the programming modulation selection but PCM is not available with this system or receiver.) HRS is the default system as more information can be sent using the HRS modulation method. The transmitter can be programmed for HRS or PPM and the receiver automatically detects and selects the method of the transmission and works accordingly. I didn't need to do anything to program the receiver. The instruction manual didn't explain it other then to show how to program it and what to do with an ESC with FET amp.My memory told me that it sent more info than PPM and that it was a Futaba proprietary system (I think), but since I was unsure I called Futaba Support. I got an answering machine and left a message, and shortly thereafter John G., Product Support Lead Technician sent me an e-mail as I requested. That means that using the HRS system with 2.4GHz means that it is blazing fast. (As was the response time from John G.) They recommend a 6-volt Nicad battery pack. That means a five cell Nicad pack. An alternative possibility would be to use a 4-cell AA battery holder with 4 AA 1.5 volt alkaline batteries to power the receiver and servos. Use of a 4.8 volt 4 cell Nicad pack or other variation may make control impossible and the fail safe unit is not available. The recommended servo must be a 6-volt Digital Servo in HRS mode. For these reviews I took Futaba at its word and used the recommended 6-volts and 6-volt Digital Servos.The occasional driver who receives a radio system with his car or boat and is happy to take it out for an occasional spin is unlikely to put the time in to truly benefit from this system. The boater, and especially the car and truck driver, who is serious about performance and control and who wants the very best in a stick controlled radio system is the person for whom the 3 VCS FASST system was created.In short, they can both be adjusted for tilt, for tension and for stick length. The steering is on the right stick (it moves left and right) and the throttle is on the left stick (it moves up and down). The throttle stick has a neutral adjuster to its left that lowers the stick's neutral position with the flick of a switch without effecting the throttle servo or an electric ESC. It also has screws at the top and bottom of the stick for mechanical ATL adjustment. The top is the brake (back) side adjustment and the bottom screw is the High side adjustment. A metal plate is included to convert the throttle to a ratchet method if that is desired.Its digital trim is beneath it. Its digital trim is to the right of it. Digital trims are supplied for all 3 channels and allow for quick adjustment of the servo centering position as needed. Model memory saves the digital trim setting with each model.This makes access and change to the steering rate very easy to accomplish. Instead of a twist of a knob to set dual rate, here I could directly monitor on the screen my dual rate setting as I adjusted it point by point with the BT1 buttons.With this, you can turn on my transmitter without broadcasting. This feature would have been more important before the transmitter went to 2.4 GHz broadcasting, but it is still a nice feature, and it should help save some voltage. If reaction from your car or boat is needed in this process, the transmitter can be connected to the receiver by using a DSC cord for the 3VCS. One end plugs into the transmitter on the bottom right side and the other plugs into the receiver. Now the servos can be operated without transmitting a signal.I have previously discussed the default functions for the digital trims and the BT 1 and 2 controls but their uses do not stop there. They have a multitude of programmable functions including a wide variety of steering and throttle adjustments as well as braking adjustments and program mixing. Push it down, let go, and it springs back up. It also requires a Futaba charger and none is supplied with the system.Not with AA batteries as I am using. This allows the operator to use headphones to hear the warning buzzer from his transmitter amid all the noise of a race. A pitch programable audible noise is still made by the transmitter even with the use of headphones.Select the one you want, press the corresponding button, and you are there. Steering, Dual Rate and ATL can be directly programmed for the BT 1 and 2 buttons mentioned above or they can be adjusted through the regular program menu. The transmitter has servo reversing on all three channels. Programming lets you select the model you want to operate and program the model?s name to be seen on the screen.The six buttons at the bottom center of the transmitter and the material on the LCD screen make programming easy. It flows in such a logical manner that I can even easily program functions I don't yet understand. My learning curve has been much faster than I expected when I first examined at the manual. But I had to share the programmable LED function with you. The LED shows the system is on. It can be programmed to be: sky blue, blue, red, purple, green, orange and pink. While I found it to be somewhat silly I enjoyed the fact that I can program the length of time that the LCD screen stays lit when it is turned on or activated by programming - visibility vs.Some of the functions are designed to work with or best work with a large gas or glow powered RC car or truck. I am very impressed by the claims of what the 3VCS can do: the designed flexibility of the control functions and the ease of programming a wide variety of functions. I will specifically test my receiver's lock on to only my transmitter capability. I will even take the receiver for a spin in my Aquacraft, SuperVee 27 electric powered boat. Via a vintage ARF. (It was due in July and now coming in October.) Only after I test the car with a standard radio, a standard stick radio and the 3VCS will I be able to answer the question of value. I can tell you the software reads to be very sophisticated. I think value like beauty will be in the eye of the end user. It doesn't even come with a proper NiCd pack.That is part of its speed but the software and other features discussed are what makes this system so special. (It started out to be an FM system.) If you just think 3 channel and 2.4 GHz the price doesn't make sense. But if that is all you see, you aren't seeing the trees, or even the forest. The value really won't be known to me until I get to start the actual trials as stated above.I'm very interested in reading that as I'd like to get a high end radio but am not overly fond of wheel radios. Ideal for throttle control, or for more effective braking in gas racing. Helps tailor outputs for different control styles. Please refer to this FAQ for more information ATV is specific to each individual servo, so adjusting the ATV to the aileron channel will not, for example, adjust the servo throw of the second aileron servo if you have flaperons set up. That is to say, it takes priority over all other items. Therefore, adjusting ATV will affect anything else that is a percentage from that number, including rates, exponentials, and mixes. This is what the 8U and 6X consider the first switch position in dual rate which most modelers use as their high rate. AFR is active until the dual rate is activated, and it belongs to each CONTROL or AXIS of the airplane. Therefore, adjusting AFR for ailerons in a model with flaperons will affect the throw of both servos. So if you have a low rate, mixes, etc, that you like, but you need a little more (or less) on high rate, adjusting ATV will mess up all that other work. So you have to go into AFR, set your high rate how you want it, then go to the NEXT screen to set exponential. This is your expo setting for when your dual (low) rate is not activated for that channel. Please refer to the PCM 1024 info page and the FAQ for more information. Another term for FM. Particularly useful with 2-stroke engines in providing linear throttle response at the various points of throttle application.
