David Comeau 5.0 out of 5 stars Installation: It was easy to install in-line with the supplies in the box and the existing line going to the cold water feed. It mounts easily under the cabinet. The filter itself does not need priming or flushing prior to installation or use. It was a straight forward job to get it installed and can be accomplished by anyone who has changed a feed line on a tap or bathroom fixture. Performance: Well its almost like a Brita filter for the cold water line. It does restrict the cold water flow a bit, but not a lot and that was to be expected. I just turned down the hot water feed to match the pressure and they are still balanced. Even while operating on cold water only, the spray feature on our tap works, so there is still enough pressure. Taste: Its as clean as the water coming off the fridge. Not quite reverse osmosis level, but a noticeable enough difference in cleanliness. Our coffee and tea does not have a faint taste of chlorine. So good for drinking and cooking. That was the goal, and it works. The final comment which we cannot give now is length of service and swapping. Since the filters are interchangeable, we went with the advanced to start, and we are happy with it. Less expensive, good performance and longer life. So we will stick to that. The filter is supposed to be easily swapped when its time to change it, and considering the ease of installation I can't see that being different. We will see. Installed in 1 hour, water pressure only very slightly different, it lasts, and the re-test of the water shows lead now at 1.3 so it did in fact remove 99 of the lead. Please try again We've bought new filters for it many times in the three years that we've had it. The one disappointing thing about it is that the flow rate falls off pretty quickly with time. We're in San Francisco, and our cold water before we installed the filter flowed at 1.6 gallons per minute (gpm). Immediately after installing a new filter the flow rate is 1.2 gpm, which is quite tolerable, but it falls down to 0.7 gpm over the following two months, at which point it levels off. The final flow rate is annoying enough that I finally measured our most recent one every week or two after installing it. A graph is attached. I'm not sure why the flow rate creeps up slightly after two months, but I took each measurement three times, and the variance between successive measurements was never more than 1. The first time it happened, we thought it was a fluke. But the second time it happened made us question the quality control of the filter. So now we plan to carefully inspect each replacement filter we receive and exchange them if we detect any cracks. The non-defective filters are smooth to the touch. The defective ones you'll discover something that feels like a scratch in the housing. This is the crack that, when under pressure, will open and spray water in under your sink and in your kitchen. I'd give this a 5 star rating if they can fix it because we love the filter. However, until they do, it's 2 stars. As soon as I installed it, I tried the water with a TDS water quality tester and it kept reading 156.Without the filer is 164. So again, what is the point fo this filter!! My Zero water pitcher read 005, and that is after 1 month use. This is the most dissapointing purchase I have ever made, can't believe this is a 3M product. Its for city water that you want to taste better and clean up a little. It reduces, not eliminates most, not all common water born problems. Again, read the spec sheet. It will, as others have stated, make your water look and taste better. You can see what its been removing when you change it out. Just dump it into a clear glass. Youll know then. It says change every 6 months, but ive accidently let it go longer w no problems. I also permanent marker the date on the side when i install it so i can keep a track of the time on it. The complete kit is very good and well made with decent fittings if you go that route. If you know some basic plumbing skills, you can install 1 of these units. At replacement time, i find the filter easy to remove but a pain in the butt to reinstall. You really have to jam it up into the filter housing to get it to lock in. Once it does, its easy to turn. Ive been using these filters for years with no issues either with taste and purity, or leaks. The 4 stars is for the effort to get the new filter to seat. Removal is super easy. Just a twist counter clock wise and it comes right out. Please try again Thankfully, I was home to turn the water off and clean up the mess. Like some other reviewers, I didn't push the blue tube into the filter mount hard enough, and water sprayed everywhere at first. Once I applied more force and secured the supply tube, it worked. I'm filtering mildly metal-tasting Florida well water. I side-by-side taste tested this filter's water with unfiltered well water, and almost gagged at the unfiltered metallic aroma. I side-by-side taste tested the water from this filter and my refrigerator's Filltrete water filter, and the taste is identical. My house's pipes are older, and the overall pressure is less than city water. I filled a gallon jug from the faucet without the filter in 50 seconds. After installation, the gallon jug filled in 50 seconds. A week after installation, the gallon jug fills in 58 seconds. I'll update this review if time proves that I've got to replace this filter too often because of my crummy water. The attached photo shows my installation. I had recently replaced the supply lines while installing a new faucet. The curious location of the lines on the side of a cabinet let me install the filter to the front of the cabinet, making future filter replacement easier. Please try again Luckily there was a vegetable sink in our kitchen that was easily accessible and would be a great place to fill up our water glasses. Installation took me about 20 minutes, but only because I was triple checking every single connection. What with being a brand new house, the last thing I wanted to do was flood the place the day we moved in. It couldn't have been simpler to install. Water flow is somewhat restricted from what it was, but it's honestly barely noticeable. I know it because I know the filter is on the faucet. But visitors would be completely oblivious (pretty sure the wife and kids are too). It more than makes up for any water flow deficiencies in the quality of filtered water it puts out. Our once nasty tasting city water now tastes as good as the finest bottled you can buy in the store. A month in and I have absolutely zero complaints. The only difficulty I had was in attaching the water input line to my actual water hose. After about 15 minutes of fiddling I got it on. Now that it is installed I can't say enough about how convenient it is. I like to cook things like spaghetti in filtered water, and with this system I'm not constantly using up all my filtered drinking water. If you're considering an under the sink water filter and fancy yourself even a little bit handy, get this. You won't regret it. The fridge makes ice and dispensed water. The fridge already has a carbon filter, but it is not rated to remove lead, so I needed an upgrade. This hardware is cheaper at your local big box hardware store than on Amazon, but I'll still link to suitable products here. The setup was quick and easy. Take this time to properly adjust the pressure of the shutoff valve so it's EXACTLY on what can come out of the spigot. Over-pressuring the system will eventually lead to failures and possible leaks. So after being thoroughly fed up with failing on-faucet filters and leaking refrigerator ones (the latter of which leaked behind the fridge, went into the basement, and destroyed an antique cabinet), I think having this unit at our wetbar will fix all of our issues. Realize that putting this on your kitchen sink will drastically lower the lifespan of the filters. Please try again The original water filtration system was purchased elsewhere but now we buy our replacement filters from Amazon, thanks to competitive pricing and Prime shipping. The filter is rated for 6 months but we get close to 8 with 2 adults and a child. Our municipal water is top-notch but I can't stand the smell or taste of chlorine in it. This filter gets rid of the taste and smell and delivers water that only tastes like water. The water pressure is excellent and only drops as the filter reaches the end of it's life.
