LUN Presentation VLUNs are exported through the HPE 3PAR storage array’s available FC ports by the export options on Virtual Volumes. The Ports are designated at setup and configured separately as either Host or Target (Storage connection). Ports being identified by a node: slot: port representation. There are no constraints on which ports or hosts a logical unit may be addressable. To apply Export to a logical unit, highlight the specific Virtual Volume associated with the Logical Unit in the GUI and right click and select Export. Special LUNs There are no special considerations to a Logical Unit numbering. LUN 0 may be exported where necessary. Each WWPN is identified with the pattern 2N:SP:00:20:AC:MM:MM:MM where N is the node, S is the slot and P is the port number on the controller and N is the controller’s address. The MMMMMM represents the systems serial number. This system has a WWNN for all ports of 2F:F7:00:02:AC:00:0C:02. In all conditions, it is recommended to multipath across FC controller cards to avoid an outage from controller failure. All HPE 3PAR controllers are equal in priority so there is no benefit to using an exclusive set for a specific LU. LU grouping LU grouping does not apply to HPE 3PAR storage arrays. Detecting Ownership Detecting Ownership does not apply to HPE 3PAR storage arrays. Switch zoning limitations for HPE 3PAR storage arrays There are no zoning limitations for HPE 3PAR storage arrays. Fabric zoning When zoning an HPE 3PAR storage array to the SVC backend ports, be sure there are multiple zones or multiple HPE 3PAR storage array and SVC ports per zone to enable multipathing. Target port sharing The HPE 3PAR storage array may support LUN masking to enable multiple servers to access separate LUNs through a common controller port. There are no issues with mixing workloads or server types in this setup. Host splitting There are no issues with host splitting on an HPE 3PAR storage array. Controller splitting HPE 3PAR storage array LUNs that are mapped to the SAN Volume Controller cluster cannot be mapped to other hosts. LUNs that are not presented to SVC may be mapped to other hosts. Configuration settings for HPE 3PAR storage array The management console enables the intuitive setup of the HPE 3PAR storage array LUNs and export to the SAN Volume Controller cluster. Logical unit options and settings for HPE 3PAR storage array From the HPE 3PAR storage array Management Console the following dialog of options are involved in setting up of Logical Units. - Creation of CPG The set up of Common Provisioning Groups (CPGs). The use of these thin provisioned LUNs is supported by SVC. The user should take notice of any warning limits from the Array system, to maintain the integrity of the SVC mdisks and mdiskgrps. The aim of flash cache is simple, to expand the size available to cache and to thus increase the volume of data stored increasing the chances of a cache hit reducing response time. A standard 3Par provides DRAM memory within the controllers for caching as the DRAM starts to become full data is flushed to disk so it is no longer available to cache. Data is selectively destaged from DRAM to Advanced Flash Cache in 16Kb pages.The AFC is used by writes only to invalidate data not for retrieval. When a read request is received DRAM is still used as the primary cache and is checked first, next the AFC is checked and if the data is present on the SSD’s a cache hit is registered and the data does not need to be serviced from spinning disk. When data arrives in the AFC it is admitted at normal temperature it will be promoted to hot when data is accessed frequently and marked cold as it eventually ages and will then be subject to eviction from flash cache. So to summarise what we are seeing here is essentially a tiered cache system, DRAM is used as primary cache, then destages to AFC which then further destages to spinning disk as data becomes cold. The take home benefit from all of this is a larger cache providing improved response times for random read workloads. Simulation mode allows you to look at your cache stats and see if AFC would be beneficial to your system. The output below is from one of new statcache commands available, the FMP (flash cache memory page)column represents AFC and a hit rate here of zero would suggest that all cache requirements are already been covered by internal DRAM cache. A good candidate would have a hit rate in AFC equal to the on-board cache or greater. Initially managing AFC will be via the CLI only with management console support to follow. What is neat is that AFC can be enabled system wide or on specific volumes. If you go down the specific volumes route you apply the settings via virtual volume sets. This essentially allows you to prioritise important volumes by including only them in virtual volume sets with access to flash cache. The ideal candidates will be vluns with high read requests but low cache hits demonstrating it’s a random workload. The 7000 series will need a minimum of 4 SSD drives and will support up 768GB per node pair. The 10,000 series will need a minimum of 8 SSD drives and will support up 2TB per node pair. Adaptive Optimisation has always performed well for me and does a good job of moving hot data that has a predictable workload to faster disks however you could be left lagging behind with random read workloads. The pressure coming from the pump is increased by replacing a spring in the valve body so the regulated pressure is higher and as a result, pushes a network of spring-loaded valves, check balls and servo pistons much faster. The valve body is contains a separator plate consisting of many holes which let fluid pass from one side of the valve body to the other. Enlarging particularholes allow a larger volume of the higher pressure fluid through. This vacuum line initially uses the engine vacuum to control shift points. During acceleration when the engine is producing boost, this shift kit allows the positive pressure from the turbo in the intake manifold (boost) to increase the firmness of the gear changes as well. Installing a shift kit will not correct or eliminate symptoms of a previously faulty transmission. I send you one, you install it and send me yours. The default configuration for the HP Intelligent Series Racks is two PDUs mounted vertically at the bottom of the rack so to provide a front-mounting unit space. Make sure there is enough clearance for service. Page 15 3 Setting Up a Factory-Integrated Storage System This chapter describes the procedures for setting up a storage system that is delivered in a factory-integrated HP cabinet with all of the components installed. Before you set up a storage system, ensure all requirements documented in the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000 Storage Site Planning Manual have been met. WARNING! Do not use this procedure if you are installing storage system components into an existing or partially populated rack. Page 16 NOTE: In a four-node 7400 system, two cable management brackets have Velcro straps to hold the cables. You can remove and discard these brackets, but HP recommends saving them for future use. To remove the cable management brackets, loosen the Torx screws and unlatch the Velcro straps to free the cabling. Installing and Removing the Cable Restraint Shipping Brackets The cable restraint shipping brackets support the connected data cables and connectors during transport. Page 17 4. NOTE: Make sure the brackets are aligned and leveled with the link connectors before tightening the captive screws. HP recommends tightening the screws to 19 in-lbs. Page 18 Removing the Brackets Remove the cable restraint shipping brackets only when the cabinet is in its final location. Procedure 1 1. 2. Remove the data cables from the hook and loop straps.
