The following is a list of manuals that are cancelled as a result of this manual: Throughout all five volumes, certain requirements apply only to specific platforms. To point these out, the terms (Submarines only), (Aircraft Carriers only), (Surface Ships only), and specific hull designators (e.g., DDG, SSN) are used in parentheses within the paragraph to which they apply. In the development of this manual, considerable effort was put forth to standardize work practices, incorporate accepted Regional Maintenance philosophies, and make allowances for future changes resulting from new Regional Maintenance policies. With respect to this, the term Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) has been replaced by Fleet Maintenance Activity (FMA) to reflect the fact that under Regional Maintenance the responsibility for, and the management of, repair facilities has moved to the Fleet. Due to the size of this manual, a Master Locator Guide has been developed and is contained in Appendix A of this foreword. The purpose of this Guide is to give users of this manual a complete listing of all the volumes and their major subject matter. This will aid users in locating specific areas within the manual. Appendix B of this foreword is a Master List of References used throughout the manual. This Master List should be reviewed to ensure that the necessary technical manuals, instructions, etc.Terms not meeting these conditions will not be considered as acronyms within the text and the words will be spelled out. In all cases the Appendices are intended as examples only and may not reflect the most current guidance or format. Higher authority source documents should be consulted. Sample correspondence provided as Naval messages may be communicated in letter format to facilitate timely transmission by electronic facsimile. Part I contains general requirements which apply to all platforms (except where specifically exempted), Part II contains requirements which apply to Naval Air Forces, Part III contains requirements which apply to Submarine Forces, and Part IV contains requirements which apply to Surface Forces. Part I contains requirements and procedures necessary to establish and maintain a Quality Control Program. Part II contains the requirements and procedures for establishing and maintaining a Quality Assurance Program. Part III contains information which has been extracted from Parts I and II and is considered Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information. The distribution of Part III has been limited. All change requests must be submitted using the Change Request Form contained in each volume. If changes are submitted in electronic format, facsimile or E-mail, each change request shall contain the information required on the Change Request Form. If this is a dumb post I'm sorry for wasting your time, I just really need to look somewhere for more guidance and I'm a little embarrassed to ask questions since I'm technically the only person in my division qualified to do this job. Review every 3M instruction from your ship to the NAVSEA instruction. There should be at least three but I don't remember the numbers. They are references in the SORM. You didn't specifically ask, but for corrective maintenance: Make sure you have the correct item in OMMS-NG. Do not create a job unless you can verify you are creating it on the correct piece of equipemnt Document EVERYTHING. If you have a job that needs to be done but it only takes 5 minutes, document it. OMMS is how you document man-hours. It's how the Navy sets manning. It's also how you keep track of jobs you can't do right now but need to do later. It's how you justify Depot Level and IMA maintenance for things you could technically do yourself. It's three days and it's everything you need to know. If you don't think you really learned anything there, ask to go again. In fact, ask to go until you can come back to the ship and explain everything to your brand new DIVO. Your DIVO is not likely to understand the system, and in my experience most LCPOs, LPOs and WCS don't really understand the system. Do NOT keep doing anything your predecessor was doing unless you can justify it from one of the three references or from 3MU. Absolutely YES - if you do a few checks each week - it shows you are part of the team and takes the load off your junior guys. Talk, counsel, and keep bringing it a notch up until stuff gets done, get help from your LPO. 2) I remember him saying that you could sign for checks you witnessed being completed by the maintenance person, is that true. Yes and no, the senior person doing the maintenance will sign. That means that person completed and is responsible for maintenance. Being a witness is not enough. 3) In the 3M manual it allows WCS to substitute any tools, materials, or miscellaneous items, correct. Is there a limit to this. You have to justify it is the correct tool and meets all requirements. 4) Am I still allowed to assign myself maintenance. Don't do 2 and 4 unless neccessary to train someone or short on people. You are the WCS. Maintain a neat workcenter administration, don't let people just sign maintenance, ensure they do it correctly. Don't wait until an inspection to fix your admin. The only thing I wanna add though, 3) You can substitute any common hand tools, I would never recommend substituting any measuring items. So, if I needed a a 7 inch screwdriver, I can use a 10 inch, 4 inch, etc. Just make sure that if there is ever a spotcheck, make sure the tool will fit the job. Its hard to prove you did a MRC with a tool when that tool would not even fit in a cramped space. Additionally, you're a new workcenter sup, meaning a fresh pair of eyes on the checks. If you see something, even minor with the checks, go ahead and put in the feedback report, that includes better or safer procedures. Also, you might find that the previous WCS had been missing required checks or MIPs. The 3M manual is kind of like the bible here, but be careful what kind of substitutions you allow and how much of the maintenance you allow yourself to do. If you're doing the check to be more familiar with it, that's also fine. If its obvious that you have the backing of the chain, especially with liberty, people will sign. I can think of several times where my chief had to halt liberty before some people got it into their heads that signing or in some cases doing their checks was critical to getting off on time. When they don't listen to you, remember that's why there is a chain of command. The way SKED works now, its meant to be signed for completion, with few exceptions. Our BM shop was the only WC at my last command to get away with this, and I never really bothered to question it as I'm an IT and ITs have no excuse for not being able to log in and sign checks. It isn't really enough to simply assign things in SKED and hope it gets done, you need to have a plan down to the hour it's going to happen. Granted, it wont always happen the way you plan, but you still need to make every effort. If it says lint-free cloth, you need to be able to match that nsn with one of the allowed parts for that listed spin in sked - same goes for Hazmat. Other examples of specific materials are gloves whether it be disposable nitrile or electrical gloves or chemical gloves, brushes (acid swabbing, paint brush), etc. When I'd set up spot checks, I'd always set out all the tools parts and materials on the table with their spmig so that I can quickly validate it off the mrc. If you are able to account for everything that way (not including common tools like pencils, pens, screwdrivers, 1gal plastic bucket, etc.), your maintenance person will be good to go. Alright guys - I did the best I could to split the maintenance evenly this week - whoever gets their maintenance all done(including signing the PMS weekly completion Log) for the week first (excluding dailies) will have the lesser load next week. That gives them ammunition to get them advanced or rewarded. Here it used to be the most senior signed, but it was recently changed to who ever did the actual maintenance, which makes more sense in my opinion. If PO3 did the work, and PO2 just watched, but it was a 2 person check, then PO3 should take credit for it. But follow your command's instruction if it specifies who should sign what. 3) Yup, hand tools only, like every one else has said. As long as it accomplished the job safely. One dumbass forgot a flat tip screw driver for his spotcheck, but he knew there was a butter knife in one of the drawers in the space, so he presented that and claimed his WCS (me) allowed it because it accomplished the job without presenting a hazard to the equipment or himself. I got lectured later for it, of course, but he passed the spot check. 4) Absolutely! You can also be spot checked too. I make sure they're there to learn, but it's my name on the check. 5) Tip: Know what you can and can't do safely. Know your 43P1 and everything in it. It's yours now, if the previous fella had something in there you don't agree with or is outdated, change it, so long as it follows your ship's 3M instruction and the table of contents. Read and Re-read the 3M instruction, and like MAK-15 suggested, go to 3MU, and keep the references they give you. Also, don't be afraid to ask other WCS's, your LPO, or LCPO for help if you don't understand. Learn from other peoples mistakes whenever possible. It's a shit job, especially if you got dropped into it with no turn over or training, the same thing happened to me. Right before INSURV too. So yea, it's a shit job, but you'll be fine. Christina 4.0 out of 5 stars In comparison: The Classic III is much lighter weight than the Cardiology IV but does not sound even close to as clear (which makes sense). It is still good sound quality and I will use it for my lung sounds and GI sounds but not for CT-ICU patients. In comparison to the Littmann lightweight, it is obviously much heavier of a stethoscope to carry around. The sound is much more high quality than the lightweight so I like to use this one on day shift when I need more noise cancellation. I also think the sound quality of the classic ii is very similar to the iii. The tubing is sturdier on the iii and noticeably heavier. My first stethoscope as an RN was a Littmann Classic II, which I loved. Unfortunately, it disappeared in spite of having my name engraved on it, never to be seen again. As a replacement, I purchased the Littmann Lightweight II S.E., which for me, was a dud. I know some people love it, but maybe I was spoiled by the performance of my missing Classic II. After giving the Lightweight a chance, I decided to go ahead and spend the money on a Classic II again, but they were not easy to find (maybe it's being phased out??) and it wasn't available in the bright color that I wanted. On the recommendation of a Doc that I work with, I ordered this stethoscope and WOW!! I'm so impressed with the Classic III's acoustic sensitivity. I get the clearest heart, lung and bowel sounds without any of the light vs firm pressure nonsense of the Lightweight S.E. No matter how much noise is in the background, I never have an issue with auscultation. Just as a test, I listened to my daughter's heart and lungs through her thick robe (of course not how I'd listen to a patient) and it was still incredibly clear. I ordered the bright yellow so that I could spot it easily and so far no color transfer or any other issues. His heart sounds GREAT by the way:) I did not expect to hear so clearly with this, although I should have since it has great reviews. My boss is the only one with a Littmann, and now I understand why she doesn’t share hers. The ear buds feel so nice, and my ears don’t hurt after wearing this for a few minutes as opposed to the other stethoscopes I’ve used. The color is true to picture. I picked the Caribbean blue. Five stars for Littmann! P.s. I read quite a few reviews that stated the delivery packaging was awful. Amazon seems to have improved this as my Littmann came in an amazon box with air packaging. Not just a taped up Littmann box. Very pleased!I decided to take a chance and get one off of Amazon, however I wonder if this one is a knock off. Side by side comparison of other Littmann Classic III stethoscopes show that this particular one has very limited auscultation abilities. I missed the return window because I work all the time and I didn't have a day to take the package to the post office. I would be very cautious in this purchase. It does not cost anything additional to get a stethoscope from a store where you can try the product first and know you are getting a quality product. I have not had this issue with any other stethoscopes of this brand, and that's why I wonder if this is one is a total knock off.Seriously people, in my career I've owned many stethoscopes, but this one is the best. Lightweight and long enough that I don't have to smell my patients breath when listening to breath sounds, and I can hear the S1 and S2 heart sounds. With vent alarms and monitors going off I can hear faint crackles. You won't be disapointed!I noticed I couldnt hear what they were discribing in class and the examples online. So i decided to try the classic bc i was still learning and thought I would get the more expensive later. The moment I put them on and tested them, my eyes and mouth popped wide open. I was totally shocked in the HUGE difference between the two and what i could now hear. A HUGE smile then followed!!!!! It was amazing to finally hear those sounds and with such clarity. I'm sure the more expensive ones are even better but I love these and for now I'm very satisfied!!This one delivers high-quality breath sounds and coils neatly into the side pocket of my BDUs when not in use. Sturdy, reliable, and aesthetically pleasing, it's tough to go wrong with a Littmann Classic III.I just received my Littmann Classic III and I am in love with it!!! Came well packaged and it's beautiful!! It has very good acoustics and I can't wait to use it during nursing school!! If you're on the fence, don't hesitate. Go for it!La qualita dei materiali Littmann e indiscussa ed esteticamente si presenta molto ben rifinito. Please try again Breath, and chest sounds sound nice and clear with this stethoscope in my opinion, I'm a paramedic student and needed a stethoscope to hear breath and heart sounds for physical assessment of patients while in potentially loud conditions and this works great to block out outside noises and isolate the body sounds, its comfortable in my ears. The tubing is lightweight (you can easily wear this around your neck for hours without fatigue). The tubing is very flexible, and it's easy to clean with alcohol wipes. Comes with a 5 year warranty. And the Littmann app membership included with purchase is helpful for studying sounds. The major difference for the MDF one is it's a bit heavier, tubing is longer, and stiffer, and it has a double sided chest piece in comparison to this littmann). Also the instructions warn that this tubing colour because its red based will fade or distort if santizied with bleach. Finally, I find the increasing pressure to hear different frequencies chest piece hit or miss, if I push too hard the sound is muted sometimes (I prefer a double sided chest piece with each side designated for different sound frequencies).
